And some of you said he was dead.
Ron, hate to admit, was right about leaving the doors open, he wandered in on his own, very skittish and about the same socially as when we met. This event set him back quite a bit. Anyway, he crept around, sniffing, and meowing quite a bit. He let me pet him after a while and even let me pick him up and kiss him on his little head. He appears fine.
Ron was happy after a while and finally went to bed.
I had to take the cat door panel (it is a glass panel in a frame with the cat door at the bottom), like this, off quickly so the guys could get debris out the back door, but I carefully set it aside.
Since the open access was working so well, I managed to fit the panel back in place, it is wobbly but will work for a while, and can be removed again if necessary. So now the cats have free access to come home again. I imagine I will see Mama and Cleo pretty soon, Spot had been the most timid of the gang and he is strutting around like he pays the bills. Good to see him, I missed him.
So then I shut the garage door since they have back door access. Ron was fine with that, now we won't have huge air leaks.
I opened up a can of smelly wet food and put that down in the bedroom for Spotty, oh, it reeked. But he loved it, hasn't had canned food in a few days. Spotty never sleeps with me but it is good to have him home again.
I still have the trap out back, the beds outside in shelters, and a blanket in their favorite chair on the porch. Spotty is still walking around meowing indignantly. Poor thing doesn't realize we are not finished yet.
BUT I will take whoever is in the house to get boarded when we have drywall, paint, floors done. Baby Girl and Torbie might be able to hole up in the bedroom with Ron for the first two but I imagine we will have some fumes for the last.
Which makes me glad I got the good air filters and plenty of them.

Finally put email on my phone
I just hope it doesn't bug me every 5 minutes like it did the last time I did this
I wanted to be sure I could stay in contact with the contractors and insurance rep.
Not happy
Super annoyed at Ron.
He hasn't given a shit about the cats since this all started, save Baby Girl, then he basically put her out. He was happy when she came back but has done nothing to prevent her going out again.
I have made shelters, put food, water, clean beds everywhere, shelters, etc. I have gone out and hunted multiple times a day. I have set up a trap. Etc.
Ron has laid in bed and drunk one vodka after another, destroyed his cable box (I found it), had pity parties, developed a likely expensive dental problem, and basically committed adultery on chat lines.
While I have been working with the insurance company, contractors, etc. Purging the house of anything unnecessary and cheerfully sleeping on a cot every night.
Tonight Ron has the temerity to get upset about the cats being out. He says it's because of New Years. He sure didn't care about it the last week and a half. But suddenly I have to (and this is compacting hours of lectures and demands) open all the doors and prop them so the cats can come in at will. And leave the heater running.
I told him I am fine propping the doors but he needs to cut off the heater but he is insistent we do both, have the back door and garage door propped.
He got quite upset I wouldn't open the door from the garage to the kitchen even though I explained all the drywall on that wall is gone. It is wasteful and stupid. I did not tell him that.
I just said the cats can see, are not stupid, and have noses to smell the holes in the wall - which are yards long.
It is just stupid. Everyone wants to throw rocks at me for my choices. NO ONE has helped, save the one reader who sent me the carrier.
Ron seldom helps with the vet bills, never helps with cab fare to/from the vet. Never arranges a paratransit ride to the vet so I am not always $pending out of my pocket every time someone needs to come or go. I take the cats, talk to the vet, etc. I get the lectures for his mistreatment of the cats (over treating, etc). I pay the bills. I administer the medication. I clean the boxes. I do EVERYTHING for the cats and he has the nerve to point fingers and say I did not do enough.
He says this is all a plot on my part to get out of cleaning the litter boxes.
I am PISSED.
Edit: he is sitting in the kitchen, brooding, drinking, and muttering "bitch". Too bad I threw away the can of room freshener, that would run him off.

Tuesday afternoon
Now the negative Nellies will have something else to bitch about.
Most days I like to think I am doing pretty well on my spiritual path and living in a way that pleases Jesus. "What sort of boundaries" I ask myself "Would Jesus set for Ron?" and I try to do them. I try to respect myself and Ron, even when he isn't acting right.
For instance, today he asked me to help with his cable box. But the cable box is nowhere to be found. I have no idea what he did with it. "You drank too much" I told Ron.
"Obviously" he replied "I needed it". I hate to think how much a new cable box will cost. He just destroys everything you give him, valuable and cheap, he gets drunk and wrecks it. It has gotten to the point I don't waste my money any more.
We had an argument and I walked out, went out and cleaned the garage some more. I put out some "good" stuff so hoping the hoarders come along and take it before the trash does. I did find my old Ham radio license which I kept, and some measuring cups for cat food. I have got about 75% of what I want to do, in the garage.
So basically have ruthlessly gone through everything left in my house and purged most of it. Definitely doing this when my stuff comes back. It will be a long day but worth it. Then I don't have to be leery of social workers or paid helpers coming in.
Working on that, going well. Took a break and ordered lunch. It was good. Ron tells me he needs to see the dentist, a back molar is in pain.
I get so angry when he bitches about his teeth because he does nothing to care for them. I mean nothing at all, no brushing, no mouthwash, nothing. And I ordered new toothpaste and a brush when the movers took mine a few days ago.
So he doesn't care for his teeth, abuses his health, eats no calcium or minerals, drinks, which depletes your bones, and his teeth hurt. I bet they do.
So he is all panicked and calls the dentist, talks about the credit card. We have major home repairs. We cannot afford a root canal. My thinking: if he wants to abuse his teeth then fine, just pull them when they go and be done with it. It is a lot cheaper. But no, he wants to spend $1,500 a piece on each tooth as they go out on him. It is a waste of money.
I will say it again: I have no issue with dental bills if he is making an effort to take care of his teeth. It is the severe and profound neglect and then complaining about his teeth. You put yourself in this situation, we simply don't have that kind of money.
I was OK spending the money on my root canal because I have fewer teeth than Ron, I take care of my teeth, and take mineral supplements as well.
I had to walk out and take a break because I was so upset. My air filters came and I went ahead and installed them. They look to be a very nice quality. I am glad I got them, I see it as investing in everyone's health (including the cats). Ron was happy to hear I did that.
I took a break and watched some TV, went back in his room and he is on a chat line. I was so disgusted. "I just want to hear women say they want it". [rolleyes] I will say this, his mother did a number on him re: sexuality - he is just obsessed with hearing women admit they have dirty thoughts and deeds. Get over it already.
This is new times, not 1952. I recently saw a music video where a guy was clearly depicted getting oral sex and it was not rated for adults at all. But he still frequents the lines. "She said she was married and wanted it up the.." never mind.
You get the idea. It is like events are conspiring to make me furious at Ron today. I am choosing not to be upset because I have too much on my plate already. I got rid of a ton of trash today and did a great job cleaning out the garage.
I am glad my aunt is having fun. I find it very heartwarming her sons want to spend time together even grown, their kids are close as well (the cousins). She will be back in a few days. I need to do a load of clothes, I found my shout gel so I can treat the stains and some detergent packs. I need my Tide, the stuff she had did OK on my first load but this is a more rugged load to wash. I am tired but hanging in there, I will be glad when this is all done.
I am pretty sure I am going to take a nap pretty soon.
I have checked the trap repeatedly but no one has taken the bait.

Tuesday 10 am
I just talked to my guy, he is sending out the next batch of contractors. These guys are so good his boss used them on his own house and used to working with insurance companies, which is nice as (I did not say this) I am a complete virgin.
No one has taken the bait in the trap yet, Ron is asleep with the two older cats, Biscuit is doing well at the vets.
He just got his treats, I saw Chewy had them delivered and I called, they had already taken them back to him. He is doing well, peeing OK and not stressed. Good to know. I would love to visit but feel it wouldn't be fair to him.
I am just waiting on my air filters, I will be glad to get them. I just checked tracking, they have shipped but not left the warehouse yet. The cat house will arrive Monday.
I guess I did the right thing with the concrete guys, asking them to come out and give me a quote.
It is sunny out but still a little cool. We are running the heater a lot because the wall to the garage had damage and we had to take out the drywall and insulation. We are getting some drafts from there as I discovered last night. I was fine with my sleeping bag but Ron would have hated it. Our electric bill is going to be horrific. If I took money for my blog I would put up a link to make a drop into my electric bill, $1, $5, etc. LOL
I did sleep pretty well, I am OK on the cot until this is over and I will definitely be keeping the cot. I am a little bored so I think I will get rid of junk in the garage for a while, there is stuff that can go. Garbage comes tomorrow and they sure took a lot last week.
Worst case they don't take everything I can go ahead and throw it in "my" dumpster when it comes.

Early Tuesday
Deleting nasty comments. I forget which post they tagged on but I refuse to accept that. I have done everything I can to keep them healthy and safe.
I may try putting the trap out today and see if I catch someone, bring them in. Last night going through what I have left I realized one of my electronic water bowls was icky so I got rid of it, down to one but only 2 cats in here right now. I got rid of a ton of crap before they took the dumpster.
I assume that was OK, no one said "You can only put debris in here" and they could tell I was adding stuff, no one said "Stop that". Easier to apologize than to get permission. The pickup man was very nice.
I put in a request for a quote with the concrete floor people. I will put up a link to the colors. I want "eggplant" in the bedroom - if someone buys the house and hates it they can always put hardwood, laminate, or carpet on it. https://www.ashtonpolishing.com/color-samples/ Then "Walnut" in the computer room with orange walls.
I got a bright cream for my bedroom and the common areas, I think that will be very refreshing and give me a lot of choices for the front room. Right now I have floor length lace turquoise curtains which are very nice. They will look nice with the cream.
I have had that setup with the bright turquoise accents for at least 10 years, happy for another 10. BUT they did some turquoise walls at work and they are AWFUL too strong and nothing I would want in my house. I am glad I saw that before I talked to painters.
And I will state the obvious, this whole experience has really had me looking at spanish speakers, because virtually everyone who came out to help has spoken spanish and been an incredibly hard worker. Very kind and helpful, a good example one mover to came to me with a plastic bag full of underwear and socks "You will need this". She didn't have to do that, no one paid her to - but she was kind and empathetic. So I am going to dial back a lot on the rhetoric.
I still think the home countries need to fix themselves so no one "needs" to come here but I am not a politician or a social engineer. In the meantime I certainly will enjoy all my "subs".
Everyone likes a Coke, by the way, Walmart or any grocery store has the six pack of the Coke bottles for about $3. Put them in the fridge, offer them to the guys, they love them. No one has wanted a Gatorade but everyone wants a Coke. Remember that if you ever need to have someone out.
One smart thing I did put a six pack in the fridge and went to work, then texted the guy and said "Cokes in the fridge help yourself"' and they did! I was so happy when I saw that. I will be getting more Cokes on my next delivery.
So glad I had electricity in this to run the machines and dry the house out, have amenities for us (like heat, lights, computer, microwave, fridge). That has made it very livable to stay at home.
I just checked on Ron, I have found it more helpful to check in every half hour or so when he is awake, and he was lying in bed petting Torbie. She has been a real hero in all of this, nothing scared her. She is a really fantastic cat.
Baby Girl is more reserved but holding up great now the machines are gone.
Like I said, I will try some trapping (in the BACK yard where no one else will see) and see if I can catch a few. I have some canned food they like and will use that. I still have all my litter boxes here so no problem for that when more cats arrive in the house.
My cough is getting better. The high quality air filters arrive today so that will be great and can only help. I am not worried about mold because I can see inside the walls and there is nothing but wood studs and siding (on the outside walls). My suspicion, this leak may have been going for a while and I had a problem. I certainly had a problem with that old carpet in there... full of allergens.
The really nice thing if I get the floors concrete I will only need a broom and mop to clean. When this is all done and paid off I will do Ron's room the same, and then no need for a vacuum or carpet cleaner, so don't buy one just yet.
I did put some furniture covers on my list. I have 2 "big" pieces aside from my bed, a wood frame loveseat with cushions from Ikea and a fold out loveseat, stadard looking, also from Ikea. Torbie is very fond of scratching on the upholstered one and I am not inclined to fuss.
But I found a really cute "sock" that goes over the upholstered one, in orange which will match my decor in here. Then I found a navy cover that will basically sit on top of the cushions for the wood frame one, neither is very expensive... I am trying to focus on the positive and look ahead.
And of course, after a week of sleep deprivation, caffeine abuse, high drama, noise pollution, etc.. I am manic. Not horribly so but I am going to watch my stimulants. It is good in a way because I can get a lot done and don't need to sleep much. BUT we don't want it getting any worse. Right now I am socially acceptable.
Plan is to take a shower after I finish this, see if Ron needs anything, put the trap out back, wait until about 10 AM, call the big fish on our project and see what happens next. Maybe the concrete guys will call me back today and come out.. that is fine.
I did indicate one room is only about 120 square feet and the other 64, so not a HUGE job. But a fun one! I am really glad I got to experience just the plain concrete because I like it just fine. Everyone says "Oh, it'll be cold". It isn't and it is "cold" out right now. We keep it warm in here.
AND I found a rug place so if I decide I need rugs I can do that on top. But stroke victims are at a high risk of falling on area rugs so not likely to do that. Not that I think Ron will be "walking" anytime soon.
I guess I had better go take my shower.

A phone call
Apparently Chuck heard something of our troubles and called Ron, left a message. I am debating calling him back. I could go either way.
Con:
Wants money for every ride he gives us. If I gave my aunt money for a ride she would be massively insulted. Also borrowed money and did not pay it back until Ron screamed at him. Said "Sometimes you have to understand other things are more important" than paying us money we needed for sales tax. Rides with him far more expensive than Uber.
A gossip. If they talk TO you they are talking about you. And I have heard a lot of details of others' troubles I am sure they did not want shared. I have to go into anything knowing that everything I say and do, everything he sees and hears, will be related to EVERYONE in his circle because who doesn't love juicy gossip? And his circle is not that large. Do I want all my business out there?
Raunchy boasting about his sex toys, I mean sugar babies, what they are doing etc. I find this talk very upsetting.
Called some time ago and made a big production out of saying he could not help us anymore. Not that we called him very often. I think the last time was back in August.
Pros:
May help with rides.
Sympathy.
I will think about it overnight. I find it interesting he did not call me. He has my number. Do I have his? Yes.
It looks like the cons are outweighing the pros. Now if a local person offered me free rides I would take it. My aunt washes my clothes. Paratransit took us to work. Someone sent me a Uber card, someone else sent me a kennel. My Dad offered to pay for new piping. The vet's boarding Biscuit and sending him to fat camp (LOL).
These are things I need.
Do I want someone gaping just so they can go gossip about it? Not particularly.
I guess I have my answer.

Monday noon
I almost published the one comment, amazing they got so many f bombs in one post.
The adjuster came early. Ron was decent but fell out of his wheelchair, and then proceeded to go in the kitchen and get very drunk. Sigh. The adjuster seemed like a nice guy and on our side.
After he left, I ordered some filters... MERV 11, rated for fine dust and mold spores. That sounded about right. I just had a very basic el cheapo filter in there now. I would like a better filter.
I managed to get Ron into bed. That took some doing. He can get on the toilet now.
About the only notable thing, the adjuster cut a piece of carpet to send to a lab to analyze quality and tell us how much we will get back. I was teasing him we had a big persian carpet in the bedroom that got destroyed, we had a good laugh. He was very thorough.
Everyone who comes in is taking a ton of photos and writing up damage diagrams. My whole "recovery team" (to borrow a work phrase) has been awesome. The guys from last week said the place is "bone dry" which is great to hear.
I turned on the heater now that we don't have all the fans, etc. running it is worth our money to run the system and stay warm. Ron likes it about 80 year round and I am OK with that.
I am really glad the furnace, not far from the leak, was not damaged.
Ron and I agree we need to get a better ladder to the attic, most trades guys are not slim and the ladder I think is only rated to 175. We can get one rated to 375 for $200, I think that would be worth it. The one we have is rickety and I won't use it because I think it will break.
I am enjoying my pine tree candle. I couldn't burn it before due to all the fans, filter, etc. Baby Girl is thrilled the machines are gone.
Someone - some thing, ate all the food I put on the porch so I put more out. I am going through a lot of dry but the movers took my open bag of cat food and left the intact one. They are both Iams. It doesn't matter to me but at some point I may very well have two open bags of cat food. Not a big deal.
I called the vet and they said he is great, I told them he loves catnip so they may get him stoned. I also said they can put him on a diet (17 pounds, he is) and they said they already had! They said the goal is to get him down a pound before I get him back. They were really amused I had treats shipped to him at their office. Those should arrive tomorrow.
My filters arrive tomorrow and then I will install, the cat house another day or two. It is my hope they will come back now that the house is quiet. Before it was so loud you could hear the roar off my property entirely. Now I only hear the heater. And that just turned off.
So it will be quiet tonight, that will be great. I am pretty tired.
Ron and I also agree we want to get the dryer vent cleaned before the reconnect the hose. We have never had that done; it is overdue.
I stayed pretty clean all day but the cleaning and purging is messing up my clothes. I will have to do a load of laundry when my aunt gets back. The front room is totally done now.
I am going to miss that dumpster when they take it. So easy to discard!

Monday morning
I got up at 4, got Ron ready, we went to work. I hid the key so the guys could let themselves in, and they did. They took readings, everything "bone dry" and took the equipment all as Ron and I stocked our machines. I may have left some drinks in the fridge and told them to help themselves, which they did. :) Maybe.
We came home with plenty of time to spare. Ron was OK getting on the toilet even without the sink for a brace. He can finally get around the house OK now.
The house is nice and quiet. It is wonderful. I am sure 1. the cats will be back 2. we will sleep great tonight
The adjuster is coming out any minute. We are ready.
I lit the nice pine tree candle I bought myself, it is lovely.
I plan to buy some high quality furnace filters to help keep the air extra clean for a while. I don't see any mold anywhere, don't smell it, and I am allergic so I would know.
I am dried out that is all.
Baby Girl is much more relaxed. Torbie got out when the guys were working but she is savvy so not worried. I am sure the other cats will come creeping back soon.
I am curious what happens next.

I slept pretty well last night, considering
When I woke up Torbie was on the garbage can outside of Ron's room, so I let her in. She is very comfortable.
Hopefully all the noisy equipment goes away the next couple of days but I am not in a hurry to see it go. This is all drying out my house. I want that job 100% done before we do anything else. If that means another couple days of noise that is OK.
I am taking Ron to work today, I think I can get him out. I cannot get him to the bathroom but the potty chair and urine bottles have worked fine. He is happy in there with his vodka.
I think it will do him good to get out of the house.
I got up at 4, took my shower, pills, ready to go.
Chewy emailed me Biscuit will get his treats tomorrow. That makes me happy.
The other cats seem to be simply staying away, I can't blame them. This is not fun for a human so I can imagine it's pretty stressful for a cat. The noise is so loud you can hear it even off my property, if you watched the cat shelter video.
I am sure Cleo is having the time of her life as she loves to hunt. Everyone is fixed, chipped, and vaxed so I don't need to worry.
I do, but I don't need to.
On the one hand I am hoping it was busy at work and we need a lot of stocking. On the other hand I hope sales were dull so I don't have to work as hard.
I am leaning more to the lazy side, to be honest.
My "womens" flip flops from walmart are crumbling after just a few days of use, very annoying. I don't want to wear boots everywhere and the guys have been diligent about cleaning, etc. so I don't need to. I have to wear my boots to work - they are pretty scuffed up now with all that has happened - and to the meeting I think, but then it will be my slippers.
We are getting it done. I am really glad I figured out my colors and the paint chips so that will not be an issue, later. Ron and I were talking about how sighted couples would probably have to have a big negotiation on that. But I get to just say "that one" and it happens because Ron is blind and does not care.
Very simple. I used to work in a linen shop, very high end linens, and the couples coming in used to have the worst arguments over what bedding to buy. I went through a cotton candy pink phase in the 90's and Ron didn't mind at all. I had everything in pink, it would rot your teeth just to look at it, and no issue.
I was looking at my lavender/lilac paint chip in the bathroom when I got out of my shower thinking "This is going to look really good".
I'm going to go put on my boots.

Video
It is going to be cold, for Houston, tonight, so I rigged up some shelters for the cats.
Mama and her kids like to sleep in one big ball so not as worried about them.
I am worried about that poor, dumb, bald cat running around, though.
I am not seeking approval or judgement. I am sure there are those who will think I didn't do enough, but I can sleep tonight knowing I did it.

Ron's not being smart
First he let Baby Girl out, a bad call.
He had no way to exit his room in a problem so I had to clear it for him.
He decided he wants to work tomorrow which is fine, but we have an appointment with the insurance adjuster tomorrow. Ron wants to cut it close and "hope" paratransit gets us home OK.
If you have read me for a while you know how often paratransit screws up rides. This is a vital appointment that GETS THE BALL ROLLING on repairs. We CANNOT f*ck this up. He is SUPER busy.
Ron was going to have it so we got home just before 12, when we have the appointment "I will just call and explain we got delayed". He doesn't care about that. Are we there to sign?
I read him the riot act and we had a pretty good fight, I walked out. Just now I checked and he did fix the trip so he listened but this is THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS YOU DO NOT WANT TO SCREW THIS UP.
DO
NOT.
I told him if he screwed up our ride home I would leave him at work to get his own ride and take a Uber. I think that scared him into fixing it.
One time I was out somewhere with Ron, I had to get my own ride home because he decided he wouldn't help me. I called Yellow Cab to make the trip. He went behind my back, called the cab company, and CANCELLED the trip. I was furious. He has also "checked up on me" with the cab company and I don't mean in a good way.
So I am really happy he cannot touch my Ubers at all.
I need to make a deposit today but I am very tired so I think I will attempt a nap first and then go later, maybe. I also need to return the air pump which is $12. That will pay for one of my rides.
I think my body has decided it is OK to manifest exhaustion now that I have a viable sleeping option.

Overall I am pretty happy with Ron right now
I put about an inch of water in the toilet chair, that makes it easy to empty. Piss bottles are my friend and easily emptied into toilet bucket, close the lid (God bless the person who made the commode chair with a lid, I put the lid on to transport it to the toilet), and done. He is in good spirits about it and I have no issues helping. It is far safer.
He has been in pretty good spirits considering so that's a relief. He ordered some vodka and has been responsible about drinking it.
He did lose my ibuprofen, he borrowed it for his back but then lost it, but I was making a Walmart delivery anyway (more soda, toothbrush and paste, etc.) so easy to add that in. I did add in a smaller bottle of the advil for my emergency bag, that is very helpful I think. When I broke my tooth I had some advil in my bag, but not a lot. This is a 40 count bottle and will be enough to hold me short term through an event.
He is fine in his room which is great and probably easier for everyone.
He did let Baby Girl out his window (I think it was a mistake), a half bald cat running through the subdivision, Lord have mercy. I will check periodically to see if she comes back. I do have plenty of food, water, shelter outside in a couple of areas.
I slept pretty well on my cot, is is comfortable. I spread an open sleeping bag ($10, and in my disaster supplies) over the top of the cot to add a little extra padding and warmth (but it is pretty warm in here, about 90 from the machines), then my pillows (saved them!) and then another open bag (also $10 and in my supplies) on top. It was very comfortable. I am about 220 so a zipped up bag would not have been comfortable. This, is. Then I could easily throw off the top cover if I got hot. I had my water, cough drops (allergy cough is pretty bad), glasses, and phone all on top of a little stool I kept. It is so much easier to get up off the cot vs. the floor. It is a real gift to myself. I used "Ron's" money to buy it because I need my sleep and he is utterly screwed if I can't help him due to sleep deprivation.
I have been wearing my Lands End nightgown to bed every night, it is very long, modest, loose, comfortable and I can take something out to the trash without showing skin. I like that.
The house/floor is pretty clean the guys have been diligent about that so I can walk around barefoot. I have found a few nails and put them in the trash but overall very clean and safe in here.
It is not, praise God, like "regular" flood water or God forbid, sewage.
The insurance company did tell us we have a $2K deductible but we can make that OK. I am certain they will raise our rates out of this. God forbid my Dad is a veteran I can go to USAA if they drop us.
Tomorrow I have to go to work in the morning and stock, come home and meet insurance adjuster. That will probably be the most important meeting of this whole event. Thank God the Ubers are so reliable. I am optimistic the company will pay for all this.
Ron and I feel OK going with the plumber's opinion that the pipes are all right and we do not need a repipe at this time. We can always get another plumber out to give us an estimate after all the fans are gone (it's like living on a freeway).
So next I would imagine drywall repair, then paint, then flooring. I really want to do the stained concrete, just a basic dark brown walnut color. They are super easy to maintain and I love that, plus I like having the bare concrete. If I end up hating it I can always put a rug on it.
And Ron doesn't care.
I plan to go get some paint chips today once I get my Walmart delivery, possibly put some more money in my account (my bank has been a hero in all of this). I contacted someone on one of my online forums about taking some of my stuff, he was very interested and is local. Maybe he can come by and get some stuff today. Then when all my stuff comes back I am giving 75% of the "prep" stuff to him, if he wants it.
I haven't needed food out of this shit hit the fan event. I needed deodorant one day, personal care supplies, wet wipes, a cat litter scoop, etc. but plenty of food in the kitchen. Lighting is generally an issue, I put a lamp in Ron's room. I need more batteries. I can use some lamps. I needed laundry services. I needed a good pair of water proof work boots which praise God I had. I kept them and my flip flops (laugh) and both have served me well.
You get the idea. But this time I have not needed food.
Torbie just came back in and is eating even though I have bowls of food outside.
I was pretty depressed when I got up but took my antidepressant immediately, feeling much better which is why I take it.
So Wellbutrin and the rest of my lineup are also heroes in this.

Abusive comments ARE deleted.
That is not a maybe. They will be.
If I had them all boarded at "Rover Oaks" you would be railing at me for the money spent. I have shelters on a covered porch, the catio, and the backyard. I also have blankets and a soft cat bed for them.
I forget where I left off, the guy didn't come by which is fine, the machines are working right now. We just need to let them do their thing.
The wall studs are drying out.
Allergies are bad but I will live.
Torbie is fine and had a great time attacking my boot laces when I took them off.
I made a Walmart delivery for tomorrow.
I cleaned out the computer room closet, waited until 3, and then took a Uber to Academy. Again, I got rides in just a few minutes.
I found the beds pretty quick, they basically had a $30 bed and a $99 bed and the $30 looked more comfortable. I had already done my research and I am well under the weight limit. I took one and unfolded it, tried it out, pretty comfortable. I had an easy time folding it up again - good because making my bed every morning will literally mean putting it away.
I got it in the cart, it is not overly heavy. I shopped a little but only bought a few sodas. I got a Uber again in a couple of minutes - different driver.
We came home, I set up the bed in the front room, it is good there but I will still fold it up every day when I get up. I got rid of the old air mattress.
I had a small mania going so I cleaned out the pantry - might as well use that dumpster. I finished that up and was happy.
I heated up some dinner for us, and sat with Ron and ate in his room. He enjoyed the meal. Baby Girl kept looking out the back window so I suspect the other cats are in the back yard.
I am not upset at the comments I am getting - the ones I deleted. Mildly annoyed and amused because not one of these people spent over $1000 in vet bills rescuing 3 cats this year. Yet they feel they can lecture me.
I talked it over with Ron and decided not to visit Biscuit until pickup day. I think that will be more fair to him. He wants to go home when he sees me. I did have his treats shipped to the vet, from Chewy. The vet has always wanted to put Biscuit on a diet and now's her chance. I will likely get a slim boy back, which will be great.
By then I hope to have the microchip feeder for him.

Saturday morning
I got a lot done today, did my supply run and then took it in, stocked, etc. fixed a vending machine, did it all, came home.
I called the vet, they said Biscuit cried for 20 minutes after I left. He had been fine there ever since I dropped him off. :( I feel horrible. I guess I shouldn't visit him until this is over if it upsets him so. I did ask the vet if I could order some treats from Chewy and have them shipped to the vet for him. They said yes.
So I may do that.
Torbie had the time of her life roaming the house, walking through walls, etc. She got under the tub (they had to take the drywall on one side) and had fun exploring. I will definitely have to board her the day they close the walls. Baby Girl is fine in Ron's room.
My good litter scoop is gone but I found another that is adequate. I scooped the box in Ron's room, she has been using it. BG has plenty of fresh food, treats, water in addition to a huge litter box. And Ron to dote on her. She's fine.
I cleaned out the computer room closet, tossed most of it - they did leave a dumpster in my yard - and will donate some of the rest. I am keeping about 10%.
I have to meet the foreman today, and run to Academy and get my cot. I am going to get the larger sized one because I am larger sized. I am well under the weight limit on the small cot, but it is only 2 feet wide.
Ron is good and plotting a liquor delivery. My allergies are bugging me but otherwise OK.

Torbie came in
Is having a lot of fun exploring everything, I put out dry, wet food and some water for her. She has a box.
I measured the computer room, a little under 8 feet square, and then the bedroom is about 11 feet square. That will be useful when looking at throw rugs.
I can get a nice 6 foot round rug for the computer room for $50. Put that atop stained concrete. I will also need to do some window treatments as well, I just have a sheet tacked over the window.

Air mattress isn't working.
I still slept OK but will need something else if this is going to work longer term. Ron and I have talked and are now willing to stay at a hotel (and board Baby Girl), if offered.
That said I have seen BG, she is doing very well, tail up, meowing, wanted attention. I saw Torbie on the porch and we had a nice visit. I set up a sheltered spot on the porch for her, with her igloo and some blankets. It is behind the jasmine so no one can see it.
So I saw half of them yesterday (can't forget Biscuit).
I have ruled out Ikea as not being a good value on a mattress. I may look into futons. I also need to look into paint chips. I want to be ready when the time comes.
Most likely will be doing cream for bathroom and front room. Some sort of lavender for the bedroom.
And flooring, need to talk to the adjuster but I would be happy with a stained concrete floor. It strikes me it would be easy care, just a sweep and mop. Better for allergies as well and cheaper for the insurance company. But they may only want to do carpet which is fine. We will see.
Just some early morning thoughts.

I bought a dog house.
It is a 30 inch cube, should fit plenty of cats.
https://www.amazon.com/Suncast-Outdoor-Dog-House-Door/dp/B000QJ9EU2/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2GN2K9HD54MJH&keywords=suncast+dog+house&qid=1577492678&s=pet-supplies&sprefix=suncast+%2Cpets%2C177&sr=1-5
My aunt came, we went to see Biscuit. They are letting him have the run of the place (several rooms) in addition to his kennel. He looked good and is peeing, had a good spirit. Happy to see me and got some lovies.
Then we went to Home Depot and returned the PIECE OF JUNK.
Then we went to the bank so I have inventory money for tomorrow.
Then we went to Walmart for cough drops and to look at a dog house... if they had one. They did not.
We went to a pet store to look for a dog house and they did not have one, they had kennels and covered litter boxes, neither would work, and not that large either.
Then we got some dinner.
I came home, saw Ron, fed Ron, helped Ron with various things. I will need to eat my burger (haven't yet) before I go to bed.
First of all I ordered the house, I had seen it earlier and it looked like a contender. The weather is mild here so not worried about a longer delivery. I did rig up some shelters for the cats outside.
I understand readers are upset the cats got out. But you do not need to turn that into a personal attack dropping f-bombs and such. You will note I modified my comments statement to include "abusive language". It is very sad I even had to do that.

Sick of all the personal attacks
You are all being DELETED.
It is my life and I am living it. I don't tell you how to live your life so I don't see why you would be so vicious. I don't ask for anything from you so why do you feel you can crap on me?
Some of you have consistently attacked my personal choices, ongoing, for years. In most cases I have allowed it as I understand you don't all have my POV. But these attacks are beyond awful and I will turn off comments entirely if you keep it up.

So I talked to #6
He saw me sitting in my driveway and went out of his way to avoid me. I got his attention and told him to check his pipes. Waved a hand at all the debris in my yard and said 'This could happen to you, check your pipes".
He basically told me to f*ck off and stormed into his house. So much for "just ask for help".
I had thought about confronting him about the car in my driveway during his party but decided it will be better to just tow it next time.

A sincere thank you
Someone sent me a cat carrier. Thank you very much, it's very appreciated.
I don't know what I will be doing with the cats as all this progresses but the more carriers, the better.
Thank you so much for lending a hand.

The guys came out again
They have been super helpful. I had to take the cat door out of the sliding track, though, I put it outside. I set up some elevated perches for the cats if they want.
The repipe guy came out and said the pipes look fine, it was a one in a million thing and don't lose sleep. He said, several times, 'I would not change the pipes unless you had another leak".
I did get an estimate for how much it would cost.
We will talk to the adjuster on Monday and see what he suggests. He does this all day long.
Moisture readings are still high in the house, but I can see wet beams, etc. drying up.
The plumber was able to locate the cutoff valve - it was between the drywall and the siding, under the sink, in a dark and creepy hole. So I don't need to pay to have that done.
I got a quote for the sink and the toilet replacement when I am ready.
Ron has been fine in his room. I have been emptying his bottles and giving him Vitamin C to keep him healthy.
The equipment will likely run until Monday. The foreman will be there to help with the adjuster on Monday, which is awesome.
Everyone at Roto rooter has been beyond helpful and professional. I cannot say enough about this team.

Friday morning
So I went to Walmart, late, for me, around 7 PM. Ubers were awesome.
I went by my bank, they are open late, and put in $100 for more Ubers. Glad to do it (Ron's money, not mine).
He is in turtle mode hiding in his room with Baby Girl.
Biscuit is at the vet of course, the other cats were in the cage but got out. I will be looking into a dog house to put in the backyard for a shelter for them while this is going on. I need to return the wet vac, it is taking up a lot of space.
So I got everything on my list, air mattress, pump, toiletries basically, a lot of soda for me, some drinks for the guys (one is a red Powerade man and the other likes Coke). I believe in hospitality.
Horrific long line to check out but done with that, got a Uber in minutes, came home. Uber is just so much faster and more reliable than cabs. And I have a five star rating as a passenger which makes me very happy.
Got home, set up, put the cold stuff (Ron wanted a lot of breakfast bowls and they are very good from nutrition standpoint) in the fridge. Got out the bed. Got the pump - and it is 12 volt.
[curses] Ron offered to blow it up manually and made a valiant effort. I was stubborn, stressed out, and I'm very tenacious in those situations, I got that mother blown up all the way. But I did order a pump from Amazon.
I had 2 sleeping bags, 3 pillows. I slept very well.
It is not much fun getting up but I did it. And this is not forever.
I got up around 7 (guys are coming around 11 they said), checked on Ron and the cats. I saw Mama cat in the backyard but she ran off when I opened the door to the house and she heard the noise.
Baby Girl is with Ron and seems OK. She has water, food, box, and company. He has a very small room, about 8 by 8, so not really a lot of room especially with the toilet chair. I put his wheelchair in my bedroom.
I made a list of things I need to do and did them. I called Roto Rooter - I love those guys, everyone is so kind and professional. A plumber is coming out to do an estimate. I will also have him do a separate quote for kitchen sink and the toilet. Both need replacing but I don't think Dad should pay for them.
I took a shower and it was very refreshing. I am about due for my cycle, everyone has respected that, and I have my supplies. This would be a good time to be a cup user though.
So right now it is waiting on the plumber, and waiting on the restoration guys. I still need to count the money and go to the bank to change that into "real" money. I need to go to Home Depot and return the shop vac, and while there look for dog houses for the cats. I need to go to Walmart and return the 12 volt pump unless my aunt wants it. That is pretty much it for today.
Tomorrow I have to do my supply run, go stock, and come home. I don't know if the restoration guys will work I think they are pretty much done with the actual labor part of tearing everything out. We just need the machines to work (I will hate to see my electric bill) for a while and suck all the water out.
I am starting to feel like those huge dehumidifiers are becoming family members.

Slept Great!
Sleep is really vital with bipolar but I seem to be on top of it now. Thank God for Intex $10 inflatable mattresses.

Video today - I don't talk at all because the fans are so loud.
The guys finished for the day, I will let the video explain what they did today.
I went to Walmart, got an air bed and such. Came home to this...
I did see Cleo before I went in but she ran off when I opened the door.
Notice that butt-ugly linoleum under what used to be the sink? That was awful.

They had to do work in the garage
So I put Mama, Spotty, and Torbie out in the catio. They can visit with Cleo. I put Baby Girl in with Ron, they can console each other. They are still taking out drywall but progressing nicely.
The carpet in here is going away soon so that means I will need to move the computer at some point.
I do find it interesting that #6 always said he would be there to help in my time of need, and a water restoration truck has been parked in front of my house all week, a huge pile of debris in my yard, and not a peep out of him.
But I am sure he feels like he is just the nicest guy.
It was very odd when they took my sink (water got under it) so I have a toilet and a tub, thank God I have those 2. It looks like new carpet in all rooms save Rons - which is ironic because it probably "needs" carpet the most.
I dripped a BBQ hot pocket on my jeans but was able to dab it out, thank God. I don't want to do laundry any more than I have to.
So far very happy with the progress made and their dedication to the job.

The end of the internet
I have been up since 4. I have come to the end of the internet.
I spoke to the insurance company and did a long interview. Hopefully they will approve the claim.
The guys have been tearing out bad drywall. There is a lot, he says it is "pretty bad".
Plan: when they leave, go to the store, buy my air bed and a few minor things. Figure out dinner, come home.
But it has been a very long day already. Ron will basically be pinned in his room which he says is OK. The cats are OK, haven't seen Cleo since about 5 AM. I did set up a shelter for her in the backyard. I called the vet again and Biscuit is fine.
I looked in the dryer when they brought it out to me, and found my favorite t-shirt. That was a nice discovery. Everything in the drum is dry which gives me hope the actual dryer is OK. Water ran along the floor almost to the kitchen. The guys are doing a great job of keeping the place clean but it is pretty big chaos right now. I will take some photos when they leave.
Normally I can go all day on one charge with my cell phone but it has been 12 hours and it got a little low, so I have it charging again. I made sure the movers did not take my phone.
I also found the cell phone alarm is dramatically better and very easy to use, so no big deal they took my alarm clock.

Thursday morning
I slept OK but had nightmares about all that has happened... it is a lot to process.
I woke up a few times but overall slept OK. I am looking forward to that air mattress. And I was right, I did have a sleeping bag at work for Ron to lie down with his back. So I brought that home, I can drape that over the air bed so it doesn't get punctured.
I got up, took a shower, a little tricky with the dehumidifier hoses everywhere, but did it. I took care of Ron and the cats. I got dressed and went out for my Uber. I had no problems with Ubers today.
Very nice professional drivers who came quick. What's not to love? They got good tips, too.
Ron will pay for it. He stayed home while I went in.
When I went out Cleo came running up to me, scolding me, rubbing against my ankles, playing hard to pet. But she is clearly in good shape. She also pointed out she had eaten some food and wanted more, which I did. Ron suggested treats which sounded like a very good idea, I gave her some but accidentally got one in the water bowl, so I had to dump it, rinse, and refill. She kept rubbing against my ankles and meowing in an annoyed fashion. She is fine.
I don't want her at the vet, that is very difficult for her.
She is used to being outside.
She doesn't want to be in the house and I would worry about her getting hurt.
So I set up a shelter when I got home.
I went to work, sales were good! So I was busy stocking. The other vendor does not work Thursday so I had the place to myself and it was still pretty quiet.
I did it all, canned soda, bottled soda, change banks, took the money out of machines, etc. I took 2, five minute breaks, I am accustomed to doing that - I prefer a small break every couple of hours to one long break during a longer shift. It gives me a chance to get off my feet because work boots are not exactly cushioning - but my feet are happier that way.
Anyway, every time I sat down people kept coming over and bugging me, like "you can't rest". I wasn't bothering them about the mail on their breaks, but they kept pestering me on mine. An example, the coffee machine. I don't even take care of it and a woman tried to argue with me and said I did. No, I do not.
I hate coffee vending machines with a passion.
Another one wanted to know if I had a turkey sandwich. How do I know? I hadn't looked yet. I dealt with that, though.
I got it all done.
Ron had been rather pestering this morning, calling me, I kid you not, ten times during my shower to tell me a cat was meowing. I was worried he was going to pester me all day but he did not. He called me once, when I was in the middle of typing out a text to him, amusingly enough.
I didn't eat a bunch of garbage snacks, I had a protein shake for breakfast and a bag of chips at work. Pretty soon I finished, I almost forgot the sleeping bag but recalled at the last minute. I had a heck of a time rolling it up but I got it.
I got some looks walking out of there with a sleeping bag!
I talked to some people and showed them the "mug shot" of the leaking pipe. I am really liking the idea of a medium to dark purple rug with lighter purple walls.
Or I could even stain the concrete and then put a sisal rug on it, maybe. I like the way they look and the cats would have a field day scratching on it.
I had a very nice ride home with a very nice driver.
Biscuit has been utterly freaked out today. So I packed him up and took him to the vet. I am sure he is wondering which is worse! They will board him for about $15 a day. The other 4 are fine in the garage. Torbie is quite the adventure kitty, roaming and exploring. She is fearless when it comes to the restoration.
When I got home from the vet I fed the cats in the garage, changed their litter, etc. They are all OK. No one seems unduly traumatized and some were exploring when Ron had the door open.
Ron is OK and doesn't seem to need anything. I have some items on my list for Walmart after the guys finish (they are clearing out my room right now). I have a ton of drinks in the fridge for them and told them to help themselves.
I may order a pizza for them later. They got a little late start but are working with vigor.
It just gave me time to do my tasks before they showed up.
NO headache today. Peanuts I think are the problem and going back on the forbidden list.
So now it is just wait and let them do what needs doing, then run to Walmart later. I have a shelter for Cleo in case it does rain (it might). I may talk to Ron and call our handyman to come out and fix the hole in the cat cage, then we can let the cats out there while they work in the garage (extensive drywall damage). The garage contents all seem fine - who cares if a dumbbell gets wet, but the drywall will have to go at some point.
I do not know when they are leaving today, and if they are working this weekend. I have my trusty dehumidifiers and the HEPA fan running so I feel OK even if they aren't here, work is still being done. It is a lovely day, sunny and mild in the 70's, a really good day to get it all done.
I just spoke to the insurance company and gave a very extensive interview. Hopefully that goes well, but:
I turned off the water Saturday
I turned off the water Sunday
I called a plumber Saturday
I called a plumber Monday
I did everything I could.

I found Cleo
She is outside as I suspected, I think that is the best place for now. She is very wild at the vet and cannot be handled like my other cats. She has plenty of food and water, I will set up a shelter for her.
Slept OK considering, going to work right now and will leave Ron at home.
More to follow, about to hail a Uber but wanted to let you know about Cleo.

Ron just now figured out I am sleeping on the floor
Even though I was very clear telling him:
Bedroom is totalled
They took the bed
Floor is still soaked
Huge health hazard to sleep in there.
He kept telling me to go in there, lie on my bed, and shut the door. SIGH. I practically had to beat it into him: I am in a sleeping bag on the floor of the computer room. Why did he think I was talking about buying an airmattress? For what?
Why would I need to do that if I had a bed? So he gets it now.
Then he was complaining about the machines. They are very loud. He said he wished they would turn them off tomorrow. We don't want that, I said, because that way lies mold and then we can't live here. Let the machines run their course, suck ALL the water out, and then be taken away. He can shut his door and sleep in his bed, I don't see why HE is bitching. If anyone should complain it's me, my stuff was ruined, my room trashed, my stuff taken off to storage. I'm sleeping on the floor right next to a huge HEPA fan. He has all his stuff, his room, his bed. He can summon me with one phone call - that's the only way I can hear him.
He has a little trouble getting to the bathroom and his cat is in the garage. That is it.
Have I complained? Much? I don't think that I have. I am worried about the cats and tired of sleeping on the floor but otherwise OK.
I have been super careful about my diet today so hopefully no more headaches. I have taken all medication as directed. I moderated my caffeine intake.
Anyway, I need to go to bed. Tomorrow starts early.

Christmas day
My uncle picked me up to take me to Christmas dinner. My aunt and uncle, and my Dad, are probably the best about giving me rides without making me "pay". He took a look around the house, we left... Ron wanted to stay home.
Ron cannot access the bathroom on his own with the cords, etc. so I set up the toilet chair in his room. We will just do that.
I feel he is probably STILL better off at home than in a hotel, he was very happy giving the cats treats in the garage earlier. And he has all his stuff, which is fine, and none of it had to be taken off to storage like 98% of my stuff.
So, I took a bag of laundry and my aunt did it while I was there, she has a real gift for service.
We had a very nice Christmas dinner, turkey, dressing, gravy, green bean casserole, pie, etc. I made Ron a bag - a literal plastic bag with dressing, gravy, and turkey in it all mixed up. He will have a lot of fun eating it. He loved it the last time I did that.
That way the turkey and dressing are nice and moist from the gravy, and he can eat easily.
Dinner was pretty unremarkable except when I mentioned I am smoking CBD flower for my headaches, which I have (understandably) had a lot of recently. My uncle was utterly horrified as I described the process of lighting the herb, in the pipe. He looked at me as if I had admitted to smoking crack! Pretty funny!
My aunt was intrigued it works so fast on pain, and it does. Sometimes I have to smoke more but overall it is at least as good as the headache pills. The edibles don't always work quick but the smoke is very fast.
I had such an awful headache today I had to smoke a couple of times. Now, this stuff does not get you high. It only takes the pain, or not, and I find it does help me sleep better, which is great when I am lying on a floor.
Speaking of, my aunt loaned me what is basically a camping mat which I accepted gratefully. I will take what I can get.
My plan for tomorrow:
Uber to work,
Stock
Get money
Get delivery
Go home
Be available to contractors
Take Biscuit to vet (he has to go if no one else)
Go to Walmart after contractors leave, get air mattress and Jose likes Cokes.
Make deposit
Come home.
Take care of Ron and cats, go to bed.
Friday-Sunday we do not need to work so that's a bonus. Monday I need to go in the morning but not a horrible long time, come home to meet the adjuster (don't want to screw that one up).
My uncle used to be a lawyer. Do you ever stop? I don't think so. Anyway, he said the insurance company could sue the first plumber to come out. If they do I say sic 'em. Saying it is a roof leak and turning the water on, leaving it on, when I clearly said several times we had a leak is very negligent at best. He was quite emphatic about it.
Well, my headache was coming back after dinner so I smoked some more hemp flower when I got home, and it worked on the headache. I got Ron out in the garage with the cats so he could visit them and do treats. I still haven't seen Cleo.
I have food, water, litter in the house. I will put more food and water out on the porch tonight.
I doubt she will go far, if she left. She may still be hiding in here somewhere, but they had the door open so much I rather doubt it.
That's it for now.

Christmas morning
So still battling a migraine and didn't sleep well. Ron and I are pretty certain we will stay at one of those $200 for a week motels starting Thursday, and board the cats.
I opened my presents, Ron felt horrible he couldn't get me anything but I reminded him I am getting a remodeled house out of this. I want a plum carpet in the bedroom with lavender walls, I think that would be really pretty and go with my purple stained dresser.
I opened my presents from Mom and Dad - more than usual this time. The mystery package from yesterday proved to be the pipe cleaners I had forgotten I'd bought.
I was delighted to find a cat carrier, God knows I need one (ideally I can use 2 more, 24 inches long). I also got a vest and a soap collection which will be great. Ron got some batteries (requested) and a heated throw. He was excited about the throw as he is always cold.
We had a good little time. Then I went out in the garage and got rid of 95% of the flooded clothes. Like I told Ron, they are not precious, they can be easily replaced...I don't see a need to cling to something that is going to take a lot of work to restore - some had plaster dust on them too. Especially something so easily replaced.
Yes in an ideal world I would have documented everything for the insurance company, but I had them in the laundry room because I wasn't wearing them. That's the end of it. I also had some socks and underwear which were toast and I was not hanging onto soggy underpants that were dirty to begin with. Yuck.
I was tempted to strew them over #6's yard, though. [grin] Make him pick them up!
If I had daily use items that had more than a $3 value each I would have documented but not worried about this. I am just happy we have only paid for the plumber so far.
I do have the first plumber's invoice maybe we can get paid on that - if not it is proof for insurance adjuster I had someone out. Although they don't see worried about my timeline. It came on suddenly - my aunt has a photo of that thing GEYSERING.... let me see if I can post it.

Here it is...
And a photo of me right after the ceiling fell in.
You actually get a pretty good look at the hole behind my right shoulder.
So they are fine, the adjuster was most worried did we have a mediation company out yet, and very relieved when I said we did, they had been doing work, he said that was great and not to worry, he would see us Monday. He had a lot of cases going at the same time, it's not just me having problems around Christmas.
I think the worst was hearing about the sewage backups. I need to get that coverage settled because Eric (estimator) said we didn't have it on our policy. We got lucky this time
Ron is in pretty good spirits and handling it very well. Basically it seems all we have to do it sit pretty and sign forms now and then, we can do that.
Tomorrow will be interesting, I go into work early, get a delivery, stock (if needed), take some money if there's enough, come home (doing Uber both ways). Then help the crew and get the cats loaded so I can take them to the vet to be boarded for a few days. Maybe find a hotel around here, we have a lot of extended stay ones. I think this will all be done in a month or so but I just want a bed. It is not fun for me, a fat, middle-aged lady, to sleep on the floor.
I might just get an air mattress, especially if the cats are gone so I don't have to worry about them puncturing it. We might do the "hot cot" thing where Ron and I rotate sleeping in his bed... there is only room for one twin in there.
I will have to see just what they do tomorrow.
But so far having a good day. I sent my stepmother a photo album of cat photos - a little mean as she can't have a cat, but that has been a consistent request from her, more cat photos. I hope she likes it.
I ordered Dad's gift. Jack is doing the clothing line now and made me a baseball cap with the business name in flowing script. Dad liked it so much he asked for one, himself. So I will do that for him. It is very stylish. I will need to think a little bit if I want to let the business name out yet or not. But it is cool.
I am going to go check on the cats, brush Baby Girl, feed, and litter box.
Not happy with #6
I don't keep a high bar for #6... if they are generally quiet and don't damage my house much I am content. He is very nosy. He likes to think he is a great guy and make offers to help...
But one example, I had a burst pipe in the yard, pretty upset, had to cut off the water and couldn't do it. I went over there and asked him to help, he cut off the water, then he walked all around my house looking into windows being nosy "since he was over anyway". I kept telling him the pipe was in our yard only.
Another time he came over and did some yard work without asking, then asked me if his kid could "come get his ball now and then when he loses it". It sounded innocuous enough, it ended with large packs of screaming kids roaming my yard at all hours, day and night, years later. I had to revoke permission.
Then he came over and said he was taking my driveway. I said, no, you're not. "But I need it, and you don't have a car!" I told him I still needed the space for the wheelchair van and he would have to figure out alternate parking, but he did not have permission to use my driveway ever, He had a freaking tantrum on the porch like a toddler, in front of his son no less, very embarrassing.
I think his marriage is worse than mine. He is very immature and probably a wife beater. "Old country" thinking to "keep her in line".
Then he made a remark about "just come over and he would help Ron if he fell". But when he saw Ron on the floor of the garage he did not come over to help.
He came over during one flood event just to see if we had flooded. It was very nosy, and apparent even though he said he was "just checking if you needed help". BS, I thought, but I didn't know.
Well, I know now. We have had movers, plumbers, and "Water restoration" (most common) trucks out front, it is apparent we are in some sort of crisis. #11 could not have been nicer, deeply concerned, compassionate, and very relieved we were not moving. Just an all around great guy - I always liked him but now I think he's awesome.
So, #6 sees all this. His first name is Jose. So Jose sees all this going on next door. Does he come over to check on us? Help? No. Say "I'm really sorry this happened but I hope you have a Merry Christmas"? No.
He has his yearly all night party. Joke's on him, the humidifiers were so loud we heard NOTHING last night. Ha ha ha.
But I woke up at midnight and found one of his butthead buddies had parked in our driveway. Not in front of it, IN it, like they lived here. I was furious but I have been battling a migraine so I left it alone, but I came very close to calling a tow truck. I think the only reason I didn't, I was naked and did not want to get dressed to deal with the tow truck.
I was furious... that was bad enough.
Today I decided to toss all the soaked clothes from the laundry room save a very few items. So I bagged it all up (cats are great) and took them out to the curb. Food trash from the party ALL OVER my front yard.
F*cking RUDE inconsiderate assholes kicking us when we're down. Joke's on him, though, his house is as old as mine which means so is his plumbing.
I have never seen them repipe during all his improvements so it's a ticking time bomb for him and one day it will be him.
So now it's official, I have absolutely ZERO expectation of them ever being decent humans, ever. I can't imagine knowing a neighbor is in crisis and throwing trash in their yard. As if I don't have enough cleanup.

I got something from Amazon
Almost flat, not large... I will open it tomorrow, I assume it is a gift as I didn't order anything. :)
I have no clue what it could be. It almost reminds me of the stretchy bands Ron was supposed to use to work out.

Tuesday afternoon
The movers unplugged my internet, freaked out the computer and the modem but good.
Finally got it troubleshot? Anyway, she was very nice about it (internet customer service). So that's done.
Cleaned out 98% of the computer room, I will sleep in here tonight, it's a carpeted floor and more comfy than the garage.
Front room still needs some work but I will get it tomorrow. I am not sure if someone will help with haul-away or if I will have to take some out every week for my trash company. I guess I will find out - many of my neighbors have put huge piles out there so we will see.
The cats are all pretty comfortable in the garage. Depending on how long this takes I may take Biscuit to the vet to be boarded, it is impossible to keep his food apart from the other cats. I don't want him getting blocked.
Ron is sitting in the kitchen drinking after having fixed my internet. I will probably go to bed early, odds are I will never hear the party next door, tonight.
More later as it happens.

Movers
Took all the stuff they needed. 5 cats in garage with toys, food, and litter. Freaked out but Ok. Cleo is in the house last I saw but the door has been open a lot. She is the most street smart if she does get out and this is still better than boarding her. I did put some food on the porch.
My very sweet neighbor across the street was very concerned we were moving when he saw the van. He is a veteran and has a very well cared for dog, I have always liked what I've seen. He is a good guy.
Junk on the floor (not damaged, just crap) needs picking up in the front room. Jose said don't worry about the bedroom so that's a relief.
Internet is down
Cats are OK. Ron is quiet. I ate and took my pills.
It is amazing how much cat stuff I have in the garage. I will do well to have room for my sleeping bag! I pretty much cleaned up the computer room, found 3 webcams so I guess no excuse now! I just need to remember which is the "good" one. Next step is cleaning the front room.
Jose said not to worry about the bedroom if I'm trashing what's left (yes) so I won't. That's it for now.

Some good news
My Dad offered me a loan to get the house repiped.
We accepted... be idiots not to.. the plumber said the pipes are shot and it's just when, not if.
So you have to be nice to Dad now, he did not have to do that - he offered, I didn't ask.

Monday dinner
So, the guys left. I put food and water in Ron's room and it is my hope to get the cats in there. I have Baby Girl in there for sure. I also have food and water out for anyone who may be hiding.
I made my Uber eats delivery, I paid with my checking account as I was not sure how someone gifting me money; for rides, would feel if I spent it on food. I did not get Ron anything, he is OK he has had a breakfast bowl and some peanuts.
I will be able to sleep in my own bed tonight, my bed was fine. Just around the bed, but the water has been sucked up, humidifiers running, giant fans running. But I can have my bed. I stored all my under bed items in plastic boxes so they will be fine. I am, however, "outed" as a "prepper".
Tomorrow I will ask if they can either 1. Move my bed to the garage or 2. Move it into the front room so I can still be home during all of this (waves hand).
Not sure what I am doing with the cats. Ideal I just keep them in Ron's room or the garage but I believe a lot of drywall is going away in the garage so that won't be feasible. I think.
I still need to figure out laundry as it is out of commission for now.

A world of cleanup
So a more detailed post. Went to work, came home, Ron screwed around but did call Roto rooter. They came out in a few hours, took one look and said "You need a restoration company, it will be covered by your insurance".
My aunt had come out in the meantime wanting to look at the attic, and spoke with the plumber extensively. She agreed cleanup was a massive job. He said the whole house needs repiped, which we will have to save up for.
He, in the meantime, found the leak, which was a spectacular geyser, and repaired it. We paid him, he waited to talk to the restoration guys who are a branch of the same company.
Eric came out and was very clear on what needs to happen, what will happen, who pays for what, etc. All told we are probably looking at about a thousand out of pocket for repairs which will cost around $25K. That is almost what we paid for the house! ($68K)
So basically all I do is sit here and look pretty while people go in and out, fixing things. For now, I don't know how I am going to end up tonight but Ron's room is OK. Ironic that his carpet is actually OK. Worst case I will sleep on the floor if I can't go in my room tonight. I got the important stuff out, some clothes, my Bible, chargers, etc.
I have a "shit has hit the fan" backpack where I keep various items of importance, including my insurance papers, which made it SUPER easy for the Eric to submit a claim. I am so proud I did that, it is a really good idea if you haven't done it already, keep your insurance forms in a waterproof bag of something, in a bag you can grab and go.
The insurance may even pay for pet boarding. If you have considered buying me something I need a total of 3 cat carriers if that happens. In the meantime the cats are hiding and staying out of the way, so OK for now. Vet says they need one day's notice to take that many but they will be happy to help. Good to know. It would be about 100 a day.
So drywall is coming out, then put back up after treated for mold, walls will be painted, etc. New flooring in the bedroom, likely something water resistant if I have my way. All sorts of activity back in my bedroom which is where the party happened.
My aunt had to go but will be back later. With my uncle, who probably doesn't know the scope of all this. She talked to my Dad, I talked to my Dad, who is nicely concerned and actually very supportive, go Dad.
I am not sure what they are doing in my bedroom but they are doing something... so it is getting fixed. Ideally I will be able to sleep in my bed tonight. Worst case I will sleep on the floor in the front room.
And of course my sleeping bag was in the laundry room, and got soaked when the ceiling fell in. But I know my aunt has plenty and would loan me one.
They guys are cleaning out my room, looks like a pretty total loss except for things on the closet rod, and the bed. But I had my important things up high. That is a really good policy to have, Eric said it was "smart" for me to have my computer elevated like I did - glad I did that.
I feel a little bad everyone in the world is seeing I'm a total slob but other than that mood is good.
What a day!

Update
This will be short.
Plumber is here.
Laundry room ceiling fell in.
We need a restoration company, per the plumber, but it should be covered by insurance.
Restoration company is coming today, and will handle the billing. I still have my insurance papers out.

Gold star cat
Ron was having chronic pain issues so I got the hemp flower out for him. He was very skeptical. I got this at the local head shop. It is barely legal and a couple of large buds in mylar. I had to buy a pipe to finish it, and when the pipe arrived (amazon) he didn't want to try it. But he was desperate.
It worked, and he slept great. He would definitely use it again, and, like I said:
No ugliness
No falling and hurting himself.
Affordable
Legal
So a lot better than alcohol. I guess this would be a CBD bud? I would rather he did this than alcohol. It is legal in Houston.
Can't say enough about it. And he was impressed with the pain relief, he wasn't complaining hours later when I got up. He used very little as well.
After that I lit some incense (I don't want the house to smell like potheads) and went to bed for a while. I got some sleep - super important when battling a mania. I got up and got ready to go. I found one side of the bed the floor is dry so I sat that side when dressing.
I got Ron up, he gave me his cell phone, and what money we have, and went back to sleep. Like he said I can handle the plumber.
When they come.
I took the soggy towels outside and laid them in the chair to dry. I just want them dry and then I can wash them later. I really doubt anyone is going to steal wet, old, dirty, towels out of my chair. If they will I had better find out now.
So, master plan:
1. Plumber
2. Go to Home Depot and get a shop vac
3. Use shop vac
4. Use industrial fan in bedroom.
Ideally also get a Walmart delivery in there but I will take what I get. I am "out" of soda but I have some caffeine laden instant drink mix I can use.
It shouldn't be a bad day. For now I am going to go put some more things on the list. The cats were crazy for the salmon cat food this morning so I need to put that on the list. Every cat food on the list is very popular with the cats, the only problem I have is playing "This is not your food" with Biscuit.
Biscuit was completely awesome and slept with me every time I was in bed last night. He is a gold star cat.

Oh, boy now I am getting manic
At least I am not cranky, just sort of giddy.
I got an AWESOME surprise, someone sent me a Uber gift card, a big one at that. Awesome. So now I don't have to eke out fare out of my debit card for a while. I love things I can use and this will be going to get me my shop vac today. And I will have plenty left after my round trip.
I slept OK until about 1, now I am up so I went with it, used Ron's bath wipes to freshen up. I have a headache so will need to take some excedrin which is really going to accelerate my mania, but I should be back to normal before the plumber comes.
I have some drinks in the fridge for the plumber.
Oh, and while getting them out of the garage I saw where the water leaked under the laundry room wall into the garage. But all the contents of the garage are either bagged up/boxed, waterproofed because flooding is probably my #1 risk out here. So it is basically just wet concrete which is fine.
Pipes in the attic, living in a flood plain, yeah. Although in my defense it was not a flood plain when I bought the house.
When I was a little girl, before my sister got so deep into her cult, she bought me "A Light in the Attic" by Shel Silverstein. I thought it was cute, but then the book vanished because reading makes us bipolar (rolleyes). And my grandmother was a librarian. I took such great glee in showing that person (not my grandmother) my Kindle and explaining just how many books it contained.
I took my headache pills, now I'm really not going back to sleep. I hate going in my bedroom because the carpet is so soggy, 3 bedrooms (well, 2 and a study) and only one affected, but my room was best set up to withstand a minor flood event because I do have everything packaged. Ron is in the kitchen mostly listening to music and drinking now and then. Now he wants to go back to bed.
Did that, he is in good spirits. He probably likes the company, normally I am flat in bed at this hour. But my brain wants to be awake so I will be. Ugh.
Drama. I can't stand it but I get a steady diet. But a burst pipe is in no way my fault so I don't feel bad about it, the way I would if Ron fell and hurt himself again.

Saturday
I slept in... and woke up to quite a surprise. Wet floor, water coming out of the wall, not a good party at all.
I worked for a while trying to "fix" it, as we had to go to work. I tried to take the cover off the water meter but they had it bolted down. So I had to leave with all that [waves] still going on... had some bad times wondering what was happening to my house, and cats.
We went to the warehouse. I was stingy with supplies because 1. They are still handing out free food and 2. We need the money for the plumber.
Jack offered to go by the house to turn off the water but couldn't get it. Ron tried to call the water district but just got a recorded message. After a while, I figured I would try the billing number I had and see if I could get someone that way. I did.
A very nice man named Edgar drove out to the house and turned off the water, then told us to call him whenever we were ready to get it back on. Good, now I only had to worry about what had been done to the house.
Jack had told us an awful story about his bedroom ceiling falling in, so I had some concern.
I stocked what I could (not much) and we came home, with trepidation.
I didn't realize how edgy I was until Ron opened the garage door, I nearly jumped out of my skin. I went in the house, a couple cats greeted us as usual. The floor was dry at the front of the house which is interesting as I would see it running "downhill" toward the street.
Nope. It all went in my bedroom. The carpet between the bed and the closet is very soggy, and, I believe, will require some passes with a shop-vac. I mopped the hall (tile) and picked up all the soggy towels and put them in the tub.
That's going to be a lot of fun, later, ESPECIALLY as the leak went all around my dryer outlet so I can't use the dryer until I get that checked by an electrician. I guess I will hang them up?
It wasn't bad, as I'd call it. Just very soggy in the bedroom.
I am ashamed to admit I forgot my Bible when I was evacuating high-value items from my bedroom floor this morning, BUT it was OK. It is safe now.
We are just waiting on the plumber. They said they would give Ron a 10% discount being as he's a senior. He will also, I will make sure, look pitiful in his wheelchair when the plumber comes.
Hopefully this can all get fixed tonight and then I can focus on cleanup tomorrow. I will need to get a shop vac, I think. The carpet is pretty soggy. I want to replace it pretty soon anyway so it's not "It has to be perfect" just DRY to walk on. Ick.
Not liking that at all. I will post after the plumber comes by.
