Friday

I slept OK but woke up tired and depressed.  Depressed enough that I took a green kratom before I went to work.  It helped.

I got Ron ready and off we went.  I had given Mama cat & company a can of Salmon Dinner, they love it and Biscuit hates it.  Biscuit got his dry, which I put up after

CLEO WAS JUST LAYING NEXT TO MY CHAIR AS I WORKED!

So they were fed and off to work.  Ron gave them some treats, whoever wanted them, included Cleo who went running over to Ron when he shook them.  She loves Ron because he is totally safe.

We had a pretty good ride to work.  We picked up someone at a depressing mobile home park, she had a tarp tied off over her roof and the unit was tiny, I don't see how anyone could live in there.  Thank you God for what I do have.

She seemed happy enough.  I got a call, checked the caller ID "Vet".  I always pick that up.

I did, they said the test had come back negative for everything.  It was just stress dysfunction.  I asked if she needed a special diet as she has had this for a little bit.  She put me on hold and talked to the vet, then came back "Normal diet".

OK that is good to know.  I do plan to get some more probiotics.

I have done pretty much everything gone re: feeding.  I feed different things.  I barely have the breakfast routine.  Lunch?  Dinner?  It is different every day and that is not good for a cat.  There are a lot of cats in one place, they all get along when we're around but what happens when we're gone?

God only knows.  So I am thinking maybe a Feliway diffuser too.  Chewy must love me.

The cats, pardon the pun, are in a state of flux.  Things have changed a lot the last month, we need to let them settle down, get a routine "eat this for lunch" every day, etc.  I have a couple dry foods they like, I need to decide if I'm going to mix them or just rotate.

I have various dietary needs and everyone eats the other cat's food.  I have special formula for Biscuit, two kittens, a senior, and two "standard" adult cats.  Everyone but the kittens has a weight issue so I need to address that without "starving" anyone - they can be so pitiful.

But everyone is healthy and Cleo is good for a year now.  I don't have to medicate anyone.  I was happy as we pulled in to work.

I helped Ron with his work and did mine.  They all got paid today so I had a lot of people asking for change.  I did that happily.  Sales looked pretty good considering.

We finished up and Ron called Arturo.  He had us to go the liquor store where Arturo used Ron's money to buy the vodka, brought it out, put it in the car.  Then drove us home and put it in the garage after he got Ron's wheelchair out of the back.

Ron was very happy.  I was just tired.  The Kratom had done a good job for work but I was ready to lie down, which I did.

Ron reminded me we are going out later.  We will see how that works.  He demanded a TV dinner (nicely) before we left.  OK, he wants to fill up on mystery meat?  I let him.

I fed the cats again - well, this is what I did:
This morning they got a can of salmon cat food, which they completely polished off.
Get home from work, gave them a poultry flavor Friskies can, they ate most of it, I put the leftovers up because Biscuit was interested.
Beg.  Get poultry leftovers.  Eat some.
Beg more.  Get dry food, eat some.
Beg.

It is easy to see how Mama put a couple of pounds on.  Like a lot of rescues she has figured out I hate to see her "hungry".

But I had better wrap it up now so I can get Ron ready to go.

One can for six cats???

1. Feed the appropriate serving for each cat in the morning
2. Feed the appropriate serving for each cat in the evening.

If they beg, don’t give them extra

The old girls won't touch it, they only want Meow Mix dry now. They won't even eat where the other cats do. So we're down to 4 cats. Biscuit is on a special diet; he's out.

Three cats, one can of salmon for breakfast, a can of poultry for lunch, put out dry food for nibbles evening/night (I put it down, they nibble, I put it up - can't take a chance on Biscuit getting into it). Doc was pretty clear Mama cannot gain more weight so I need to restrict.

If they start looking scruffy again I will go up, but by my calculations 10 oz wet plus dry for 2 kittens and a 10 pound (8 a month ago) mother is OK.

Biscuit is given dry on demand, then I put it up when he's done. The other cats will eat his food.

I have told her about the ridiculous portions of the actual wet food but she refuses to listen. Mostly the cats are getting their nutrients from the excessive treats which is not very healthy for the cats.

From the cats, who were apparently very busy while I was at work today.

They are getting wet and dry. Per vet what I thought was reasonable feeding is over feeding. So I have to cut back.

Ron is cutting back on the treats (what we feed has 100% vitamins in them).

Treats are not a substitute for proper nutrition. In cats and in humans. Regardless if they have 100% vitamins in them or not. And yes the feeding recommendations on the cans are too much but 1 can of wet for 5 cats seems like not enough.

What is the name of the treat he gives?

You can’t find a better food other than meow mix that they will eat? That’s one of the worst. I had a cat growing up that we fed meow mix and he was severely overweight and sickly. I wish we knew better back then.

I can of wet in the morning. I can of wet when we home home from work around noon. Bowl of dry to nibble on around 4-8 (I pick it up until they ask, then provide, 'cause I can't have Biscuit eating it). Treats from Ron.

Mama cat went up 2 pounds in a month so they are NOT starving. And she is still nursing and ought to have the fastest metabolism.

I was doing 3 cans a day - and got flack for that being "too much" so I feel pretty confident 2 cans plus dry will be a good equation.

Ron feeds Temptations. The cats love it, all of them.

I know Meow Mix is not optimal and I feed Royal Canin too. The most popular dry food to date has been Biscuit's formula. I have no worries about Spot if he develops FLUTD because he likes the food so much. But I am holding off on his neuter.

Vet said neutering too soon can cause a small penis = problems passing stones. So I decided on my own to hold off for Spotty. He should be a nice size when we do him. I had Biscuit done pretty much the minute he came to me and I have some guilt about that.

Can you ration the treats and just give Ron a little container of treats per day for everyone but Biscuit and a few for Biscuit in a separate container?

I am concerned that you will have 6 overweight cats soon.

Ron has Biscuit's treats off to the side in his treating spots (3).

To be honest, I am probably more at fault. Big brown and green eyes begging for a second breakfast so I gave them one just now. I wish they had a percentage full meter above their heads "90% full" then I would know not to feed.... sigh.

It is very hard as they are rescues and I don't like - can't stand - the thought of them going hungry.
