I have been very stingy spending the remodel money

But I just bought a lot of outlet covers.  Total cost is about $18.  Two, nickel, for the bathroom, which is going to be a mish mash of various metals, I can't "fix" that without spending way more than I'd like.  And then 6 (!) for the bedroom.  But how often do I get outlet covers?  The last time was 15 years ago.  I think the black and cream will be a really nice contrast.

At some point I also need to get some sort of etagere for above the toilet, some sort of shelf/rod combo so I can hang a towel and store things on the shelf.  The current one was chrome plated and very corroded in places, it can definitely stand to be refreshed.

Outlet covers are supposed to blend in not provide contrast. Please fix your toilet it is gross

I guess you haven't seen the high contrast outlet covers all over Amazon. Type in "switchplate cover" and you will get dozens.

I personally like the tropical ones and will get one for the laundry room if budget permits.

Why bother with all these details when within a couple of weeks of finishing the renewal your house will revert to the cluttered dirty house it always is. You have no pride in your house otherwise you would keep it clean and picked up. I hope you buy the vacuum and Swiffer and give the floors a good cleaning before you get your furniture back. And, throw away that filthy mop leaning against the wall.

You said that the flooding was a wake up call and you would start cleaning your house. Yet here we are 2 months in (almost 3 months) and your house is a pigsty. The rooms I am speaking of are the kitchen and bathroom. I don;'t know about the living room since you never show it. I thought you were going to be motivated to change but you are not.

The toilet -provides high contrast- lmfao

I agree anonymous, they are supposed to blend in or match the trim at least. I match all mine to the trim.

Just because they are all over amazon doesn’t mean its a good design choice.

I’m amazed by how much you are replacing from this water leak.

You never said how much your flooring quote was. Just wondering how much they charge at LL for labor.

I haven't got the quote from LL yet, but another company bid $700 labor for the 3 rooms.

The flipper who did the house had installed horrible outlet covers, and the plain ones were cracked. The outlet covers were taken when they removed the drywall so I need something, and if I am doing outlet covers I can do $5 to $.60 for switchplate covers while I am at it.

The living/front room is a mess because I have all my clothes, shoes, pills, cleaning stuff, cat supplies, in a small area. And 2 cases of water they did not take during the pack-out. Carlos says he can work around it.

Yes it was a small leak and yet insurance covered flooring in three rooms. I am with the wrong insurance company.

Cleaning stuff. Lol.

It was a pretty major leak, they had to rip out 70 feet of drywall. Flooring in 2 rooms is toast, if I am thrifty I can extend it to Ron's room as well.

The company is a lot better than I expected, especially after one guy told me how Geico refused to pay for 100K in damages to one of "his" houses he serviced, and I heard ongoing stories about Allstate screwing hurricane victims after Katrina. I know some people very happy with USAA and I could get that off both parents but it was "too expensive" LOL. So I was really anxious wondering what would happen.

Carlos bid way less than other drywall guys, he bid about $3K. I had quotes between $5K and $6K JUST FOR DRYWALL so $3 for drywall, paint, AND widening doorway I felt like I was robbing him, still do. Getting a LARGE tip. Thanks to Carlos I will be able to do Ron's room later on. And since it is mainly a drywall and paint job I can get Carlos back for it. He is doing really good work and very diligent, great attitude, getting a fantastic review on Angie's list when we are done. And Google. He didn't have a whole lot of reviews but I figured he couldn't do any worse than the flippers did back in 2000.

And I was right. The only problem he says the studs are 24 inches apart instead of 16 and that is not up to code but I am not surprised the builders did a TRULY terrible job with this house.

You DON'T TIP contractors. Believe me he is getting quite a handsome paycheck from you. Drywall is very inexpensive. Why would you leave the drywall in rons room open? Get it ALL done at once. Including his flooring when you do that. It will save on the labor charge to add one more room to the mix instead of waiting to do it later. Too bad if he doesn't want to move his piss bottles to get it done. It will take one day for them to install the flooring.

I still don't see how the flooring in 2 rooms was damaged by a small leak. I just don't get it.

Plumber said to leave it open for a while... so I am listening. Ron is fighting me on cleaning up the room. You aren't kidding about his bottles.

I am getting vinyl plank so that will not take long to install in the 2 rooms, then come back after we do drywall and paint in Ron's room, have them do his room probably in 10 minutes (it is only 100 square feet).

I had carpet in both rooms that was damaged by the water. There was probably 100 gallons all over the floor at the end of it. It went everywhere. So they tore out the carpet which I hated anyway. Now I get something I will like much better and far easier to clean.

I was most surprised they took the bathroom vanity, but it was pretty ugly anyway, and water got under it. They took a very serious no mold approach and I feel safe living here now. I would call them again.
