Now, I am a born again evangelical believer. I have a very pro life stance as a general rule. I have seen the most unadoptable kids (one had been kept in a cage by his birth parents, another has multiple profound disabilities) adopted into loving homes.
I didn't post that to argue. You are entitled to your opinion. All I generally say when someone is pregnant is a reminder to consume NO alcohol during the pregnancy.
Today I took Mama cat to the vet. I had a pretty easy time getting her in the carrier, in fact, I had to remove Spot before I shut the door. No problem getting the kittens contained, good to know.
Arturo came and took me to the vet. First thing of note: no microchip. So she is mine. Vet examined her - she is pregnant in addition to the kittens. I asked if we could still do the spay, knowing what that means - and she said yes.
I don't have a problem with cat abortions. Now, one of my online friends did. She actually let the cat give birth to all the kittens, tried to find them homes, before she spayed the mother, rather than "kill the helpless kittens". I don't have a problem with that. We are overrun in kittens as it is (me personally, and Houston). I have done it before, spayed a pregnant cat, and I will absolutely do it again.
I called my parents and they were pretty horrified she was pregnant. It's like the ultimate nightmare for them - cat lady gets one litter of kittens after another. They were very supportive of my decision. Really the only one I could make.
Mama cat will be spayed next week, Doc says that is not too late. It will be a more complex surgery as she will have to take the entire uterus (which is probably the size of a basketball) but recovery will not take long.
I am so glad I took her in before she had the litter under my bed.

So much for your getting her fixed before she got pregnant again. Sad about the kittens but I understand. I believe they can get pregnant very soon after giving birth. Too bad god had no considerations for animals when he created them to just keep multiplying so rapidly. The animals are the ones that suffer because of it. No deworming of the outside cat by the vet and no mention of meds for worming your current cats. I just don't get it at all.
Mom probably went into heat very soon after the birth, they have a lot of cycles in our climate. Up north they only have 2 a year, if that. Nothing I could have done - this cat literally showed up pregnant with 2 babies already. And that is why God sent her to me. I'm going to do the right thing that should have been done 8 months ago, and get her fixed. No microchip was found today, either.
Vet gave me a worm kit - a test tube kit to mail to the lab like I did with the others.
Vet is giving me a discount and some freebies for my efforts, so I feel good about that.
I saw the pics of those other “kittens” and they are probably old enough to be spayed or neutered too. I will suggest quickly rectifying that but I doubt you will listen. There will be more pregnant cats to come I’m sure. Not sure how I feel about this “choice” with the mom cat but all around I don’t think you and Ron are equipped to care for any other living creatures. You can barely care for yourselves. Good LORD. And don’t give me “the cats would starve without me” which is total bs, those cats would feast on the mice and rats in that neighborhood and do just fine sans a meow mix diet.
Whatever heather. Obviously all the cats should be treated for worms and it shouldn't take this long to get test results back. Your vet is not very good.
Please put a PayPal up for your kitty rescue I WILL DONATE XXXXXOOOOOO . you are intentionally making this family more adoptable as well as providing spaying and a home for mom.
Actually God created a perfect world and man rebelled against his creator so we have the mess WE created. One day soon it will change. Prophecies are coming to pass like crazy. Only GOD could let us know in advance what is coming on the earth so we would believe and not be afraid. It's all in the bible and it's all coming to pass just like he said.
The vet is doing everything she can to make it as cheap as possible. I have to put one budget item aside for a couple of weeks, is all.
If you really want to help pray Spot and Cleo become more cuddly and adoptable, and a really good, well qualified (previous cat owner) adopter comes along. I would love to see them go together. Worst case Spot comes in and Cleo stays out after getting fixed.
Mom is so cute everyone wants her. Plus in the south she is considered a "money cat". :p
It’s because she never “mailed the poop”. Lies and BS
Vet scorecard: Frosty abscess, check. Healed perfectly. Bubba abscess, healed perfectly. Minimal wear and tear on all animals during exam/vaccine. Biscuit and Gravy neuter went great. Biscuit had a great recovery from his bladder stone under her care. Torbie had her foot surgery - tumor growing on one of her claw tendons. She got the tumor off without messing up the claw. Coaching us on Baby Girl's ongoing mat issue. Shaved Baby Girl last time. Many claw trims for Torbie. Very nice when Biscuit nailed her during a blood test - both human and feline blood drawn! Great attitude with us and very kind to the animals. I am happy giving her my money and guess what, it is my money.
Um, about the bountiful harvest of rodents? Not since the hoarder was evicted. I actually live in a pretty nice neighborhood. I have never seen these guys catch anything and they are pretty skinny even with all the feeding. Males it is not as urgent to neuter right away, but I do need to trap and spay Cleo pretty soon - but I have a trap for that. I know her favorite foods so it shouldn't be too hard to trap her.
I will get some rescue information and have it on my fridge. When the next one comes (assuming I don't keep Cleo outside, which I plan to do if she remains feral) I will call one of the rescues. Our local agencies are overrun right now and semi feral kittens will just be euthanized.
I didn't mail the poop? I am surprised, because I remember doing just that, the stupid one size gloves I bought tore as I was collecting the sample (not the fingers, thank God). Very annoying. Current house cat poop has been mailed.
Mama cat poop has not been harvested yet. She is in a quiet corner watching everything right now but if I catch her pooping I will send it.
We have a big mailbox right by the door at work so very easy to do. Mama cat processing has already been paid so all I have to do is collect, close, tape, and stick in a bag on the back of Ron's wheelchair (poor Ron!) the next time we go to work.
Doesn't matter it shouldn't take almost a month to get a fecal done on the cats. The vet could have mailed or had you pick up collection container well before the appointment and this fecal did not test all three cats.
Cleo if left outside will probably die.
Cleo is feral. She will die regardless. I will set up a safe place for her in the backyard, get her fixed, feed and water her daily. This morning she saw me pick up Spot and take him in the house. So traumatized she wouldn't even come out for breakfast. When I did feed her I had to stand, not sit, feet away from where she was eating.
I am not talking about putting a social, adoptable, cat outside. I am talking about caring for a feral, who would be utterly miserable in a home, as I try to socialize her. That is a lot more than what most people do, per my vet. They just trap them and send them to the (high kill) shelter. Where they also die. Cleo seems fine with the arrangement and has taken to leaving me gifts on the porch.
To the one about the fecal, why are yo so obsessed with my cats' feces? Now I have some damage but that just doesn't seem normal to me. I can only imagine what, say, my aunt would say if I told her about your posts.
Doc did give me some free Advantage which kills parasites.
Why would Cleo be feral and spot and the mother cat not be feral. I just think you don't want to socialize her for whatever reason.
I have 2 theories about her vs the other cats. 1. I know for a fact she is being tormented, ongoing, by the #6 kids and God knows who else.
Feral cat experts (I have done some research) say that you can have 2 kittens from the same litter, one is feral, one can be a pet. It goes to DNA as well.
If I didn't want to socialize a fearful cat I would not have "done" Spotty and turned him into a housecat. He is a smart boy, too. Last night we tried turkey, he loves it. I love all cats but she is just damaged. I don't love her less but she cannot be in a home.
HOWEVER feral cat people are going to work with me.
