Wednesday

We had some meowing last night, and an accident.  Don't read any more of this paragraph if you are eating, about to, or squeamish.  Yesterday vet gave Mama cat medicine that kills parasites.  Last night I found her mid-accident in the kitchen, some dead parasites in the mix.  So "parasites" can have fun with that, but they were dead and that is important.  I sterilized the area and she is fine today.

There was also random meowing last night, Ron finally opened the door from house to garage, she went out and it stopped.  She really likes the garage (Mama cat).

Other than that I slept fine with Biscuit and Torbie.  I got up, decided to take today off workouts (2 days off a week), ate, pills, fed everyone - that took a while.  I caught Spotty and brought him in.  He cried for about an hour, his mother came over and he was OK.

No hostility, though, or rather very little.  Baby Girl hissed at Spot.  Mama cat hissed at Biscuit when he got too close to her food.  Very understandable.

Spotty and his mom are becoming more relaxed in the house and enjoying things.  Spot in particular loves the litter box (I checked and his poop is normal).  I have some low boxes, easy for Torbie and the kittens, and 2 high ones.  Cleo was pretty freaked watching me "abduct" her brother but came out for dinner.  She watches me while she eats and half the time I am distracted so she can take her time examining me.  I do talk softly to her, say her name, etc.  Mama cat also used the box in front of me (a different box) and it was normal.  Then I cleaned all the boxes because FIVE cats in the house means I have to be diligent.

I talked to Ron for a while and decided to go to Walmart.  I got my bags and called Arturo.  A pretty uneventful shopping trip.  I did get a lot of cat food and some more treats.  I got a call my glasses were in - they only took a week.  So I had Arturo pick me up again, swing by the optician, get my glasses, and come home.  That worked very well and Arturo made some money!

But I count cab fare to go get glasses as "medical".  I got home, put everything away.  I took a nap with Biscuit, who seemed to need some extra cuddles.  I think he felt a little threatened by a younger, healthy, intact male kitten (not for long!).  I told Biscuit he was my Golden Kitty (because I have spent so much on him) and he would always be my boy.

I took a little nap but woke up with a headache.  I took some aspirin.  More time with the cats making sure they get along, lots of treats given, petting and nice talking telling them how awesome they were.  New glasses are great and no complaints.  It is nice to see better.  Everything is correct.  Normally I have a difficult adjustment period with new glasses but not this time.

More talking to Ron, I ordered some more Kratom.  I am glad we found something that works and want to make sure we have plenty in stock.  I rotate him on varieties, every time he asks I give him a different variety.  They all work really well for him, though.  He liked the "Gold Bali" so much he has asked repeatedly for that.  They got my order and sent me an email, wasn't too hard to pay either.  I should get it by the end of the week.

I got an email from Dominos saying they would send me a free cheesy bread for 40 "points".  I apparently had it.  My total was so low I had to add some more diet soda to it before it would process my order.

It was good.  Even better I got Ron to eat some.  The cats are doing well, feeding everyone an abundance of food and treats.  I haven't seen Spotty in a while but I am sure he's around.

We work tomorrow but not for long.

So you basically took momma cat and spot away from Cleo and left her outside. That is very wrong. Not to mention if momma cat had parasites more than likely spot and Cleo do also. Plus momma cat will need a second round of treatment I forget the time frame to kill any eggs that haven't hatched yet. I cant believe you are going to leave all five cats alone tomorrow. Hopefully there is no bloodshed. Also I hope you cleaned parasite litter box today. Bring Cleo in too. It is wrong to leave her all alone.

It really used to bother me when people told me what to do. But I accept you are well-meaning.

Cleo was BULLIED. Her mother, her brother, both food aggressive with her. Mom is in the process of sending them away to make room for new kittens. So Cleo is free to be herself without parent/siblings hassling her.

Ron woke me up today and said no work today so we are home - but the inside guys are really getting along famously. A little growl or hiss if sniffing gets too personal, or trying to steal food (they are all weird about that), but other than that fine - we slept great last night.

I plan to run some errands later but I am not worried about them. Whatever I did this time I did it right and they are all pretty well adjusted. Mama cat is understandably hormonal and probably trying to nest (please don't have the babies!) but other than that everyone is fine.

Spotty is still pretty fearful but he is letting me pet him during mealtimes. Biscuit is a big teddy bear and I could see them becoming good friends. Both new cats are eating everything in sight.

I will talk to the vet on Monday about parasites but I am cleaning the litter box daily.

No mention of poor little Cleo who spent last night all alone. Why are you so heartless about one cat and thoughtful about the others?

No mention of Cleo in you reply. Funny how you choose the two cats who are bullies over the one cat being bullied. Kind of like your own life with you being in a situation as an bullies and mentally abused wife. I wonder if you unconsciously want to reject Cleo and not help her

Heather Knits said...

Would you like to come adopt her? I am the answer, not the problem. *I* am feeding her, her mother, and brother - on a limited budget. *I* am getting them all fixed. *I" am socializing 2 feral kittens. One was able to come in a house and has done well (Spot) but in no way adoptable yet. Cleo won't even let me touch her but she will come up to me or rest near me if I am in the chair.

Cleo hides. I haven't seen her for about a day. Normally she comes over when she sees me on the porch and I feed her. I put the bowl by my foot and sit very still as she eats, looking up at me frequently. We are working on trust.

I called her this morning, nothing. I had some wet food for her in my hand, I put that down, it was gone when I came out later. Don't forget I have 6 little shitheads just next door plus more feral children all around, terrorizing Cleo. I can do nothing about it until she can come in the house. It is ironic that her "safe" place, outside, is actually the most hazardous.

I believe someone else is feeding her, she is small and very pretty. She has disappeared for days at a time before - she is feral, after all. If she is around I will feed her. In a month or two I will do my damnedest to trap her and get her spayed. But I have to work on trust, first.

Spot has made a lot of progress in the last week so I have hope for Cleo. You can point fingers all we want - but I have a total of 6 rescues now. I am actively homing, spaying, feeding, and neutering (sorry Spot). What are you doing for the community cats in your area?

Anonymous said...

Actively “homing” aka keeping, and not deworming, cats in a hoarder home full of piss bottles. You won’t even try to find a home for those animals, you are going to be on the news. “Police arrest Houston woman for hoarding 76 cats in her home, all of the cats were infested with parasites. 76 unmailed fecal samples found next to a blind mans wheelchair full of urine bottles. Blind man is missing”

Absolute nonsense. You can pretend all you want that you are helping but you are not. Cleo will be able to get pregnant at 5 months old so leaving her outside and not getting her spayed is not responsible on your part. Just have the guts to admit you wanted to keep the other two because you liked them and don't really want Cleo. I guarantee you wont try and find a home for any of them because you let life happen to you and are not proactive. Just like you still have not called about the bank and the broken door. So congratulations on leaving an unswayed cat outside to breed more unwanted feral cats who will suffer horribly. Give yourself a pat on the back.

Heather Knits said...

Let's address the points, one at a time.

"I am not getting Cleo fixed". WHEN have I said that? I am saying just the opposite. I will have to trap her to do it but it will be done.

"I don't care about Cleo" Why would I be worrying about her? I am baffled. I am probably the one person in the world who cares at all. I want her to have a good life. You want to sit behind your screen, point fingers, name-call, and judge. You know Heidi offered to help with their alteration surgeries? And what have you offered? Not even good wishes.

"I won't try to home Mama cat or Spot". Mams cat has a big operation, and needs recovery time. She does not like the children next door. My vet says adult cats, which she is (just petite compared to my guys) do not get easily adopted, so probably easier for everyone to keep her. Spot is half feral and, when tamed, will need to go into an experienced home. I don't know anyone who meets that. There are 700 pets a week being admitted to our shelter - Houston is overrun. No one wants a couple of broken, used, cats. Everyone wants a tiny, socialized, kitten. By the time I get these guys rehabbed they will be anything but.

The bank is Ron's issue - it is his access. One reason we work as a couple I don't interfere in his issues. If he gets upset he will call. Right now he doesn't feel it is worth it.

I did find another branch of the bank, nearer our home, in a much safer area. He flatly refused the idea so it is his business/his bank. I don't get exercised and you shouldn't either.

It's not good for your blood pressure to get that upset. Cleo will be a TNR cat if she stays around (trap, neuter, return). I will feed her and look out for her. I think that is all she will allow, ever, in her life. The other 2 cats hadn't given up yet so I was able to save them.

Absolute nonsense about the bank. You are the one who complains about struggling to get him into the bank doors. Ron is also a victim like you. It is the reason he drinks and the victim mentality is the reason you put up with his abuse and drinking ad stay with him. That is the reason you and him won't do anything to make a complaint and make your life easier. It is a simple phone call and the fact that neither one of you is willing to make the call speaks volumes. A 5 month old kitten is not a lost cause. You took her mother away from her and left her alone outside that is sick and wrong. That is like taking in a woman who just had a baby and leaving the baby outside to fend for themselves. How nice for heidi to offer to send money she knew you would flat out refuse anyway. They have rescues that will pay for or offer low cost vet care but again you have to make an effort and call around. And we both know you wont do that because that requires you actually taking initiative.

About the bank- how self centered you both are. You two aren’t the only customers of the bank! You could call on behalf of ALL DISABLED CUSTOMERS like a decent human being. :(. You act like it’s only Ron’s bank.

Heather Knits said...

You are so self righteous. I could tell you I won 10 million and donated it all to charity and you would complain about it.

I have never seen another customer in a wheelchair using the bank. The door works on the right side, and, what 90% of the population are right handed. What are the odds there is a non verbal left handed person in a wheelchair using the bank? It is only a problem for us because Ron is strong on his left side (stronger, rather).

I don't wipe his butt, and he doesn't ask me to. If he wants help he will ask for it.

Heather Knits said...

Not sure if 2 posts from the same person or 1 post each, problem with anonymous posting. Maybe you need to assign yourself numbers and use those when you post "Heather, you are a bitch - #11" "I agree with #11, #17"

The whole bank issue was MOOT today because I went by myself and used the right handed door. Ron is a big boy (again), he can decide if it is worth a complaint and a reputation as a complaining person.

I am spending lots of time with Cleo. If you feel this strongly about feral kittens (she is) there are tons of rescues out there begging for fosters, colony managers, trappers, etc. Even cash would be great. Seems to me that energy would be better spent "saving" than venting at me. I have saved 3 cats and I make no apologies. The mother is hissing at Spot as her pregnancy progresses so she wouldn't be nice to Cleo either. If I can get Cleo tame, and if I could get Frosty tamed I can get anyone - I will of course bring her in the house. I am doing everything, sitting outside and talking with her as she eats, take the food away when I leave (mean, but necessary due to bugs and wildlife as well as social issues for Cleo). Half an hour ago found me eating a yogurt as she ate her dinner by my feet. But she spooked frequently and wouldn't let me get anywhere near her. I suspect the neighbor kids ruined her chances.

And, for all your reading, you JUST DON'T GET MY LIFE. I DON'T DRIVE. We have tons of spay and neuter places, with very reasonable prices. But, like I told Ron, and my vet, by the time I get the cat driven to the clinic, wait while I drop her off, drive back home, do it all again to pick her up, I have paid for a very high quality spay right around the corner at my local vet. So I might as well do that. I made that call with Biscuit and Gravy, it was the right one. So I will do that with Mama cat and her kids. I have 2 cab drivers who like cats and have no issue with transporting them. I plan to alternate them, generous tips (saved for), and a much easier time for all concerned. Besides, as Ron pointed out, not fair to the cat to have a long ride home after surgery.

I have said from day one they are all getting fixed (scratching head) yet all the outrage. I just had to move up Mama cat a couple of weeks due to the pregnancy.

When you go to the bank, Ron may be the disabled one, but you are his caregiver. YOU need that door to work properly so you can caregive properly.

wouldn't running interference for him be part of caregiving? A complaint from you is perfectly valid, it doesn't need to come from Ron. If you're concerned that Ron might get upset that you put in an official complaint, does he even need to know about it? If he asks, you can be honest.."ya, you've heard me complain about it lots of times. Sure glad they finally fixed it."

There's some things you're never going to be able to change or fix...may as well knock off the ones you can. (Hope the heat eases up...I could never deal with that)

I think once a cat is pregnant they reject the other kittens so they can nurse the new babies. Why is the momma cat being so horrible to spot? Stress at being inside maybe? As for the bank door you have to struggle to get him in the bank when no one helps hold the door. So it is as much of an issue for you as it is him. More so for you because the burden is on you not him. Why cant you see that. Cleo should be fixed so you wont have to have the vet abort anymore kittens. If you actually called a rescue they might be able to help with transport to lower cost vet. Yes you do what you can but you also makes things harder on yourself like with bank door. Sorry if you feel I am being hard on you. I just hate the idea of Cleo being left behind.

People have suggested that you contact rescues in Houston who may actually come pick up the cats for you. THEY EXIST!! YES people understand your driving situation. I think everyone is outraged and just dumbfounded at how irresponsible you are being with these animals. The worms and having 6 and possibly 7 cats in a 900 square foot house.

Again. You assume SO MUCH. Do you spend 24x7 at the bank taking a census on all of the customers to know how many are disabled and right handed (which is a stupid argument)? You and Ron are not the only people in the world who are disabled. I would have thought you would look out for other disabled people.

Heather Knits said...

I can afford/handle 6. Especially as Cleo is currently outside.

Re: the bottles (it's you!) Ron and I were talking about it. There are not a lot of weapons he can operate safely because he might get me. BUT he has his bottles full of urine. He empties them a couple times a week and always has a quart or so on hand.

so: home invader, rapist, burglar, comes in his room acting wrong. Ron, I told him, take the cap off that MF and THROW it all over the bad guy! Chemical warfare! And it smells AWEFUL. No harm to me if it gets on me, either. Just a shower and some laundry will fix it.

He never saw it that way. Last night he was cleaning them out and said "I hope no one breaks in tonight".

Heather Knits said...

Oh, shut up. If I did everything "right" by your standards you would still nit pick. You just want a rock to kick and for whatever reason I am it. THERE ARE NO WORMS per laboratory stool tests.

I am still utterly baffled by your attitude toward the bank. You didn't give a shit when I was upset, now that I am taking Ron's lead and saying "Whatever" you are all bent and screaming I "do something". 2 of the 3 doors work. That is enough for 'most anybody but Ron and even he doesn't care.

And that's what it comes down to, if I am doing this "for Ron" and he says "don't bother, I don't mind/care" then I'm going to listen to him. If this is about "saving" everyone else who goes to the bank they don't want it and they would have to call the spanish line anyway.

@ why is Mom mean to Spot? My guess would be he wants to nurse, she is dry, and hormonal imperative says drive him off. I have seen him rubbing against her and she had her tail up and rubbed her face against him. But sometimes she is just cranky. That will all resolve with her spay, I think they will go back to being close although they may still have issues around food.

I am getting Cleo fixed. She is still only about 3 months so time to spare. I would like to socialize her and fatten her up - if she is too thin they can't do it. When the time comes I plan to trap her in the "possum" trap (out back so the kids can't f*ck with her), take her in and get the whole feral special, ear tip, spay, shots. That all in about a month or two. First I want to get Mom cat done and recovered. I will certainly call around and see if someone can help but I am doubtful.

Spot is getting more confident and was hanging out around Ron today, Mom cat laid on Ron's feet, both of them came running to me when I came home, with their tails up. Everyone is using the box and the only real upset is when Mom gets sick of Spotty bugging her and smacks him. But, like I said, hormonal and that will be done in a few days.

I also arranged a ride FROM the vet to the house on Tuesday.

I am the one who has continually said call the ada on the bank and also said ask people to hold open the door. So yes I have cared all along and offered solutions

Heather Knits said...

I'm not hating. When we have ASKED for help people walk away or literally slam the door in his face. It seems to be "better" to let random strangers help as they are led.

Ron is just not interested at this point, and I have to respect his decision. He doesn't tell me how to be crazy so I don't tell him how to be crippled.
