The Phone Call

So, that was a horrible scare.

Ron's boss and I are Facebook friends.  Last night I got a text message from him: "CALL ME ASAP [YOUR] MANAGEMENT CALLED TODAY"

I was totally freaked.  ALL management has to do is say "He's gone" and he's gone.

What was the big problem?  Were we going to lose the business?  Needless to say I slept horribly all night.

This morning Ron called at 7 AM.  What's the problem, boss?

Well, for one, you were wandering the floor.  You are not allowed to do that.  Ron explained that.  Boss said don't let that happen again.

Then, the second issue.  "You are sleeping at work".  No, he's not.  Ron had to explain he has a very bad back (which the boss knows) in no small part due to their worker running over my husband.  Sometimes, when it is really bad, he lies down on a sleeping bag in the hall.  He lies down on the bag, not in it.

Because his back is a mess.  Because their employee ran him over while talking on a cell phone and running a red light.

I think it's a reasonable accommodation.  He was out of the way, he has a documented bad back.  I can give them the report if they want.

I don't see the problem as long as the machines are stocked.

So, anyway, a bunch of worry about nothing.

Ron sees his pain doc Monday.

Any reason you did not sue the post office and said employee?

Yes. First I have to explain I got several opinions, including the Yale lawyer in my family.

He was off the clock so no lawsuit against the PO. It did not happen on their grounds, either, but at the light a block away.

We did sue the employee, but Texas is a great state to hurt someone. They cannot do a judgement against your wages, savings, property, etc. They can only get a judgement against the insurance company, and, if you have crappy minimal insurance, the victim gets a crappy minimal judgement.

Which is what happened to us. As Ron always relates, the hospital got $10K, owed half a million, settled for ten thousand. The lawyer got 8K for haggling the hospital down. We got $2K and that was it.

For a life in a wheelchair. Had to work pretty hard at not becoming bitter over that.

Yep there is NO justice in the world. That is why I call B.S. when people say their prayers were answered. God does nothing. Not on this planet. We are ALL supposed to help each other and the animals. Some do, but not enough. That is why there is so much suffering. We reincarnate back here until we learn.
