So, another interesting day. Ron had another allergy attack and I had to give him some Benadryl.
Ron and I went to the wholesale warehouse, first.
He needed 5 cases of soda, which I loaded onto the cart. Then we got some chicken salad and potato salad, for the church potluck on Sunday. I had my insulated "cold" tote bag. I put ice in with the salads and they stayed nice and cold all day.
I also bought a large bag of "party mix" assorted wrapped candy. Last year, I waited too long, and they were out of it when I was ready to buy for Halloween. This year, it's already on the bookcase. I just need to get a sack of $8 mix, and the snickers bars (Ron and I will share that expense). Then, the candy goes in with a scripture booklet to all the kids. They like us, we're the good house, and they can do whatever they want with the booklet.
I also got some candy for work, the machines needed it. I had a little trouble getting all that loaded!
We got to work, I left Ron outside with the stuff, and got a handcart and the wheelchair. Ron hopped in the wheelchair and I brought in all the stuff.
We didn't have too long, so I went straight to stocking. I did the break room first, missing the woman who hates me. I heard her later, yelling about something. Funny - she was very belligerent, yelling, until Ron went in the room. Then she shut up and didn't say a word until he left again! Ha!
I also got Ron's permission to refer any "complaints" to him, and walk away, if she does it again. Good. I want to be professional.
We did pretty much everything, all the urgent stuff, but our ride came early and we left. We went to Walmart. Ron was pretty groggy from the allergy meds, so I put him on the bench. Later, he said he was cold, and wanted to sit outside (in the upper 90's). He must have been freezing!
I got most of what I wanted. It took me a while to find jeans.
See, we have tax-free weekend in Texas. No tax on clothing items that cost less than $100, each, this weekend. School supplies are also tax free. The retailers do better this weekend, than they do on Black Friday!
So, I figured, I need some jeans. Since I gained weight this year I need new jeans. I found some in various sizes, petite length. I tried them on. They worked great, all of them.
Some were 99% cotton, with a little spandex, and better pockets. Others had more polyester, and OK pockets, but not great. I figured I would go with the cheapest pair, or the mostly cotton ones if they cost the same. Happily, I found, the ones I liked were the lowest priced. Yay! I got 2. I went with a very dark indigo, and black.
I also got a t-shirt, and saved about $5 on sales tax. I got soda, cat treats, and "cat plates". Ron feeds meat tidbits, to the cat, on disposable plates. I got some TV dinners because I'll be running depressed soon, female supplies, vitamins, etc.
I even got Ron some tic-tacs. He has pretty bad breath. I didn't get wedding shoes, but I can get them later.
At any rate, I was done. Stick a fork in me.
I got a little confused checking out (I did at the warehouse, too), but both times the cashiers were incredibly kind and the customers behind me, patient. Thank you, Lord. I guess it was apparent I was having a "special" moment.
I checked the receipts, they were fine. I went out and waited with Ron, but not long. After we got home, I put the stuff away and took a nap.
Oh, and this morning, we got our flood insurance quote. $1,100. That isn't too bad, considering the coverage is a lot better than the homeowner's policy. We get 30K more on the house, more on the contents, and $2K less on the deductible. We'll have to pinch our pennies to save up for it, but between us, I'm glad we have the policy.
Flooding is probably the worst "natural" thing to happen in Houston. We don't usually get hurricanes. The only "bad" one before Ike was Carla, and that was 25 years before. We may be in a drought, but it does flood.
I had actually asked Ron to consider a flood insurance policy for years, but he refused, until the mortgage company demanded it. I was relieved.
I remember watching the water rise in the street, during Hurricane Ike, and thinking "Well, if it does get up to the house, we have flood insurance". Although I have to say, I have very little in the way of "assets". Any pay would just to to structural repairs.
That's one thing I've never gotten, the shoe thing. I have an average-sized foot. Well, a size 9. I do have wide feet. I have found it easier and far more comfortable to wear a man's shoe. I have a pair of work boots, and a pair of steel-toed leather slip on's (which I love and wear almost everywhere). I have some slip on plastic clogs I bought at Giant Dollar, three years ago, and a pair flip-flops - I don't usually wear them due to fire ant bites. I have 2 pair flats, in black, from the family reunion cruise. That's it.
I would never wear heels. I have balance and coordination issues.
I need a light toned, neutral, flat for the wedding. Or sandals. I don't want to spend a lot of money for shoes I'll wear once, so I think I may start at the thrift store. That's where I found all the dresses (several) for the family reunion cruise.
I have plenty of "skinny" clothes stored in my closet. When I lose the weight, I only need to get some new undies, and maybe some t-shirts.
I'm very much a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal. Ron's fine with that: me, jeans and a t-shirt, with a ponytail, steel toed shoes, unloading a pallet of soda. I think he finds that a lot more appealing than a woman in stiletto heels and a designer label.
Instead of a purse, I have backpack. Very practical and not appealing to muggers. I was able to stuff an 8 pound sack of candy and a couple bottles of Diet Dr Pepper into the backpack today. Yay.
I like living simply - nothing to worry about losing. It has very little to do with my faith, actually, and quite a bit to do with my medication. I find it easier to live this way.
Have a good weekend! (((hugs)))
