I forgot to add
Doc, upon reading the radiology report on Ron's back, said that Ron will always experience severe pain due to the changes in his back. He will always be in severe pain.
I had suspected as much but it was still hard to hear.

My dad is the same way. Foot mangled in a bad car accident. He has lots of pain had about 5 surgeries takes mega doses of pain killers, antidepressants and still drinks like a fish. He is 80 now and I don't know why he is still alive.
