Friday night musings

I can say this.  3 people were working all day on a job.  My boss asked me to do it today.

I did about as much as the three, in half the time.  Will she be happy?  No.  She will, probably, but she won't let me know.

Which is foolish.

I will share a story.  Now Ron was a terrible human in a lot of ways but, I think, an excellent manager.  I'm on my lunch so I'll share a quick story.

The post office had made a "room" for our stock, about 20 feet square, out of chain link.  We called it the cage and Ron kept his canned sodas in it.

Well one day a forklift driver drove into it and knocked over a pallet of soda.  He did not get in trouble and we were not repaid.

The girls, 2 middle aged women, worked an overnight shift and got off at 2.  One found the mess right at closing time.

They knew Ron worked 16 hour days and they did not want to call and wake him.  So they, on their own, stayed 3 hours over not knowing if they would be paid, working to clean it up.

When Ron found out he almost cried.  He immediately went to the cash register and paid them each double pay for the time they stayed, plus an extra $20 each.  He then told them if something like that happened again, it was OK to call him and go home.

That's the kind of loyalty good management can get you and that's something I have not seen since Ron died.

He wasn't a good husband but he was an excellent boss.
