I need to do a blog about some of our older customers who come in the store and expect the old time department store experience for a discount price.
Here's a hint, you don't get both. They are often highly bigoted and only want the white lady (me) to help. Even though what they want is not something I know. Even if there is a more qualified minority employee standing by to help and I still have my regular job to do.
Kind of like the disabled couple who always come in at 2 pm on a Saturday requesting assistance (which takes over an hour). Before I worked here I rode with them on para transit and I used to tell them "You will get everything you want if you go in at 8 am on a Tuesday" but "We always shop on the weekends" and "We don't want to get up early" even though neither of them worked.
They still come in Saturday afternoon and pitch a fit because no one can help.
I had a lady Friday night chasing me around the store saying basically she only wanted a white woman to help her find an item. She could not describe it or provide a photo just a very vague description. She wanted me to present her with one item after another "No that's not it".
She wouldn't stop bothering me even when I told her I had been working 9 hours straight and had to go home. She didn't GAF. She was very upset her other choices were a couple of Black ladies and a few Latinas.
