Confession

Ron was really nasty to me yesterday but that's no excuse.

At any rate, at one point at work I had 3 cases of drinks on top of "my" cart.  Ron was yelling at me to finish my work so we could go home already.  I told him I needed the cart to do snacks.

He told me to clear the cart and take it.  I told him to do it, and walked away as he yelled at me.  But he did it.

Last night his back was killing him.  I'm sure clearing the cart didn't help.  I lost my temper.

I suppose I will have to apologize to him sometime today.

Edit: before I could apologize Ron told me he mixed up his Glucosamine and Tylenol, and that's why he was in such pain.  So it wasn't my fault after all.

A quick thought

I need to work on my bitterness towards Ron's family.

35 minutes

We got our ride and went to the warehouse.  I bought what we needed, Ron slumped in his chair, his head in his arms.  He said he didn't sleep last night with back pain, and "the vodka didn't work".

Jack came and took us to work.  Ron decided he didn't want to work a full day and told me to stop working, we were going home now or "You can pay for your own cab".  I told him I hadn't finished: he didn't care.

So we took a cab home.  It was a pretty uneventful ride.  Except at the end, when the driver pushed the button to open the back hatch, and the wheelchair fell out on the ground.  The wheelchair was fine.

Ron called one of his cab drivers for more alcohol.  He will be coming pretty soon.

I laid down for a nap.  I was tired from all the physical labor.  I fell asleep.

Ron woke me up screaming my name.  He was furious.  He was in the computer room, trying to find his bed.  I told him where he was and he went to bed.

Then he told me he lost his (brand new) phone.  He demanded I find it.  I told him no, it was his phone, and he lost it.  He bitched at me for a while and then passed out.

I tried to go back to sleep but that wasn't happening, and it was pretty close to when I planned to wake up anyway.

Still pretty pissed at Ron.  I know he wanted to stay home and fall into the bottle, so, when he asked if I wanted - still wanted - to go out tonight I was contrary and said yes I did.  He finally fell asleep in the bedroom.  But, if he wants his vodka, he'll have to wake up in 35 minutes.

Long day

Ron was up all night with back pain; says the only thing that helps is vodka - HAS to drink before we leave today.  This is happening more and more often.

I would have more empathy for him if he would go to a pain clinic, but he refuses.  He won't even get an MRI.  He just uses "back pain" - which I do believe exists - as a crutch and justification for falling into the bottle.

He has been VERY verbally abusive all morning.  It's going to be a long day.

Around the Bible Handout

I woke up at 7, took my shower, did my God Time.  I got my supplies together for my Bible Handout.  I have a bag, a sign, a handcart.  Then I load the Bibles on the handcart.  I got ambitious and was going to do two cases, but they were too heavy.  I put one back and did the other one.

I called the cab company.  The dispatcher said she couldn't hear me.  I called back and used the automated system.  My address is in the computer, under my phone number.

I called back in about 10 minutes and the computer said my cab was on the way, should arrive shortly.  I put some cash in my pants pocket and left everything else at home except my keys.

I always worry about getting mugged on a handout.

My ride came and I went out, wearing my brightly colored safety vest, my "Ask me for free Bibles!" hat, and dragging my handcart behind me.  We got the cart loaded (glad I only brought one case!), and headed out.

You know the rest from reading the Bible handout post.  After I finished I went to the drugstore and got a bag of chips and a couple of Sprite Zeros.  I went to the bus stop.

Traffic really picked up after I finished, I could do an insane Bible Handout during the lunch hour if I wanted.  But I'm going to need some cardio training for that.  I did one handout at that location that had me gasping for breath.

I found the fake handicapped man in the wheelchair, waiting at the bus stop.  His legs are more muscled than mine.  A real paralyzed person has atrophied muscles because they don't use them.  I actually saw him using his legs, too.  Just a ploy to get money.  It really makes me angry because I am disabled and ask for nothing aside from my half-off bus pass.

I went home.  The weather was really nice, bright, sunny, and mild.  But you can feel the heat is coming.  I saw mosquitoes but none of them went after me.  They were the long-leg ones that seldom bother me.

I posted my updates, ate my chips, and drank my last soda.  I wanted to go out for Mexican food but Ron was very tired.  I decided to take a nap.

And I woke up with a raging migraine.  Spiritual warfare?  Too much bright sun?  Or maybe the Sprite Zero?  I don't know.

I told Ron we weren't going anywhere.  Then I vomited into my bucket and actually felt better.  I still have a headache but it isn't raging like it was earlier.  I can watch TV, listen to music, and look at my screen.

I don't have an appetite and I don't plan to eat.  Tomorrow we do our supply run and that will take a while.

That's it for now.  Have a good one!

Another Bible Handout

I did my first Bible handout at a median on Veterans and Antoine. I noticed it was empty, lately, and decided to fill it with Free Bibles!

I had my handcart so I only took one case of Bibles, they are very heavy. Gorgeous Bibles, but very heavy. For Spanish, I brought some Scripture booklets (I ended up handing out several). I also brought my tote bag, which has various booklets and supplies for the handout.

I called a cab, he came pretty quick, helped me load the cart, and took me to the location. Plan A was to use the Veteran's median. Plan B (if homeless people were begging on the median) was to go to the mall and do a handout nearby.

The median was empty so I unloaded and got set up. NO interest for a while, just people ignoring me while they texted. I don't mind if they read the sign and then decide no, but if they won't even look at the sign...

I finally started handing them out in ones and twos. A truck with furniture guys on board. People riding in cars, wanting a Bible, so I gave one to the passenger and the driver.

I also had a policeman, he was very eager to get a Bible.  We chatted some waiting for the light to change.

One lady was baffled why I wouldn't take money. "But you have a sign?" I told her it's to give away Bibles, only. I told a couple of persistent people (wanted to give me money) I had a go fund me and they finally let it go.

I gave 3 Bibles to women smoking in their cars. I thought that was interesting. One car had 3 women in it. The front women were talking to each other. The backseat woman saw my sign and leaned forward. When I passed the car, they had the window down, demanding Bibles.

One guy explained he was a Buddhist and only read Vietnamese. I gave him a Vietnamese booklet! He was impressed.

I also handed out several Spanish booklets to various parties. I tried to give one man an English booklet, and he showed me a Spanish booklet he had! I thought that was great.

I gave away what I thought to be my last 3 Bibles, and a man in a pickup asked me for a Bible. I told him I was out, but something told me to *look*. I looked and I had another Bible. I swear that was not in there 30 seconds ago. I gave it to him.

I told everyone (except one person, and I feel terrible about it), I would be praying for them. They were happy to hear it. I cleaned up my mess (whenever I hand out a case of Bibles, I'm stuck with a case), and went home on the bus.

I only take the cabs when I have a heavy load, or the bus isn't practical. Please pray for the recipients!

"If you don't ask"

Ron kept me up again last night; I let him know I Wasn't Happy about it.  When I got up this morning Ron presented me with two broken halves of his LG 450 cell phone.  He finally broke it.

Considering how many times I saw him literally throw the phone on the floor during a blackout, run over it with his wheelchair, etc., I'm amazed it lasted this long (years).  We had a spare.  Ron asked me to "fix" it.  I told him I had no idea what to do.  Plus, my hands tend to be pretty bad.

Example: we now have to put a lot of dimes into the coin mechs for the canned soda vendors.  It takes me forever to get them into the slots.  My hands are just "dumb" on my medication.

Plus I didn't want to fry the only good phone.  It's funny, too, because just last night I told him to back up his phone.  I am a geek: I have an address book - a paper one, and it has all my numbers in it.  I can't imagine how awful it would be if something horrible happened and I couldn't call my family, because I didn't memorize the numbers.  I have the address book in with my important papers.

So, we went to the warehouse.  I bought 3 boxes of candy bars and called it a day.  We went to work.  I stocked the 3 boxed chocolate bars; the way I see it, running out of chocolate is a minor emergency.  People, women especially, want their chocolate.  I stocked my stuff, Ron stocked his.  I helped him.

Somewhere in there, I talked to Chuck, he agreed to take us to the cell phone store and get Ron's phone going.

We got it all done and left.  We came home.

We had a little time to get ready so we waited for Chuck, who came early.  Ron took his sweet time coming out.  I consoled myself with the thought that Chuck knows I always come out on time.  He used to drive me around when Ron had his back surgery.

First we went to the mall, but they don't have the cell phone kiosks anymore.  I found that out with my carrier a couple years ago: I had to go get the cell phone "done" and I went to the mall, only to find out my carrier had left.  I found another brick and mortar store, but it was frustrating.

Same thing today: no cell phone kiosk.  They had a cell phone repair kiosk, I asked him if he could fix it (Dad always says if you don't ask the answer's always no).  He shook his head.  Oh, well.

I sat down at a table and found a "real" store on my cell phone, but on the way there we found another, bigger, store for the carrier.  So we just went with that.  I unloaded the wheelchair, put Ron in it, pushed him up the ramp, through the door, etc.

First thing we found out they don't sell the phone anymore.  So Ron would have been screwed, BUT, he had a backup he wisely purchased.  I can use pretty much any phone: Ron cannot.  So it's important for Ron to have a backup.  We handed the phone pieces, and the new phone in box, over to the clerk.

He transferred the brains to the new phone.  We got it going and made a call, it worked.  Good.  We went home.  Ron spent the next couple hours customizing the phone (he puts foam pads on certain numbers to make it easier to dial), and inputting phone numbers from his phone book (he has a computer phone book).

I laid down for a nap but I didn't sleep very well with the phone jabbering, plus I was working on a headache.  It got bad enough after a couple hours I got up and took some Excedrin.  Now I'm very alert but tired, at the same time.  Biscuit laid down with me, he's such a good boy.

Biscuit is terrified of strangers, if you came in the house, he would hide under the bed, but with just us he is the (aww, he's by my foot) sweetest boy.  Torbie is my flirt, she likes to approach strange men for petting, except the plumber who admitted he had a couple of pit bulls.  She didn't like him.

But she loves my uncle, who thinks cats are OK.  He will pet her, and she loves it.  Baby Girl won't hide, but she won't approach, either.  She will sit back and watch, very alert.

Ron's happy now, he's got his phone pretty much back to what he wanted.  We still have another spare so he is OK for a while.  Hopefully this one will last as long as the old one.

It was interesting to see, at the mall, how many stores had cell phone cases.  I have a generic hot pink silicone sleeve for mine.  It works for mine, it has saved my phone from cracking several times.  I have dropped my phone, a lot, and it keeps going.  It's a carrier brand, you wouldn't know it unless you had my carrier, but it's a very good phone and does the job.  It's still a little complicated for me, now and then, but I like it.

It lets me blog.  It has a food tracker app.  I have a good camera and can send and receive picture messages.  I can text.  The phone has good quality.  So I'm happy.  It wasn't expensive, either, only about $40.

I will keep using this brand because it works for me.  It isn't my first phone by them.  I broke the first one unplugging it from my computer, fried the battery, instead of going to the hardware settings and manually turning it off.  But, up to that point, it worked great, took abuse, did the job.  So I will stay loyal.

I did have some billing issues with my company, when I put in the new card number they took a while to process it, and in the meantime sent me a nasty text saying my payment was due!  But other than that they've been fine.  I have coverage where I want it and that's all I really care about.

I think I'll go do my God time, I didn't do it this morning (too busy helping Ron with the cell phone), and I like to stay fueled up.

Have a good one!
